I also found a few DEAD beetles in my humidor yesterday. I took each one out and threw out a few with holes in them. Now if I found dead ones does that mean that they are most likely dead? Are there things you can check for on a cigar to know whether or not it is infected? I took out all of the cigars and cleaned out the humidor, but should I not have put cigars back in? Thanks

1) Dead is dead.

2) I know of no way to detect an infestation until you see a tiny hole or bored out channel on the cigar. Unfortunately, that is after the fact.

3) Once you find the little buggers you should take ALL cigars that were in the same container as the offending sticks and freeze them.

BTW: It also has pictures of the little B@sturds...

And don't get all paranoid,most people will never see a tobacco beetle unless they seek them out.They just aren't real common.

I found pictures, but also cigar adds, so I can't post sites, but you can go to google.com and in the phrase section of the advanced search, enter "tobacco beetle" and you'll see many pictures of these nasties...

Thanks guys. I put all of my cigars in ziplock bags and in the freezer for a few days and now they are in the refridgerator waiting to go back in the humidor.

I just wish I knew which cigar the lil things came from so I can let someone have it. 😉

Thanks for the link smithbw. A lot of good information in straightforward language, but....damn! That picture of a box of tobacco-beetle-riddled cigars is going to keep me awake tonight. Talk about a cigar-lover's worst nightmare!
