This was caught just off from my house last week.
We came up on their boat as they were bring it in.
Poor guy was exhausted. 🙂
I offered to bring it on board our boat, as we have a ramp in the back, but they wouldn't have it. Don't blame them. 🙂

It is a Thresher Shark. Not real common off the coast here. They ususally only show up here when they've followed a stream of fish coming up the coast. They use their tail to herd fish.
With the tail, this one was about 17'.

Thats one big A$$ thresher! We have 'em here in So Cal but I've never seen one that big.Can you say BBQ!

This is the second one caught here that size.
The first one, oddly enough went to the same fish place to be dealt with and was similar in size.
The last one was caught in the river and this one was just outside the mouth of the river.
Poor guy was in a little 20' sport boat. They tied it off to the side of the boat and headed in. 🙂

Where was it ?

We're going to need a bigger boat.

They were caught in the Columbia River, where the river meets the Pacific Ocean.
I live in between the pacific ocean and the columbia river, in teh very NW tip of Oregon.
If you look at a detailed map, you will see that there is actually a peninsula that sticks out into the columbia river and the pacific. That is where I live.
There is a large amount of Salmon and Sturgeon fishing in the river during the summer.
