This is a picture of an 'Angels Trumpet' at bloom. Slim had said that these bloom at night. Well, he's right!

It's 'pitch black' out here tonight. It took over ten tries to center this pic cause it was so dark out.

Hi, this is JustDanD's wife. That flower's commonly known as a moonflower, you can sometimes get as seeds but they can be hard to find; don't think I've ever seen a growing plant for sale. They do bloom just at night, close up in the morning then open up the next night. We're in Ohio. My folks have always had them. Come back up every year. I would think they'd do fine anywhere in the Midwest.

we had a large plant outside our bathroom window in california.. also known as indian tobacco i think i still have a seed pod from that plant but it is about 12 years old by now probably no good i would love to have one that is a little freasher to try to grow. my e mail millswilliam at hot mail dot com

Hog, I believe they would thrive there. I got the seeds for this plant from my wifes Grandmother who lives in Sun City, AZ.

They have EXTREME heat there. I think if they can survive out there, they will survive just about anywhere this time of year.

I dont know how well these do in freezing conditions though, but I wouldnt worry. These grew FAST from seeds. So even If you had to start over every year with new plants, its no big deal.

What Mag has, is a Dautra (Solanaceae Datura spp.) ... and is an annual plant. It must be planted from seed each year ...

COMMON NAMES: Jimson Weed, Devil's Apple, Thorn Apple, Stinkweed, Mad Apple, Devil's Weed, Malpitte, Moonflower and Witch's Thimble.

Some call the Dautra an 'Angles Trumpet' ... but there is another plant species that goes by that 'common' name ... the Brugsmansia.

COMMON NAMES: Brugmansia, Angel's Trumpet, Tree Datura, Maikoa, Huanto, Floripondio.

I have one of the peach-colored ones, and the flowers are about a foot long, and hang down like bells. It is a tree that is two feet higher than the eaves on my house ... and even in our mild winter climate, it will still lose it's leaves every year (which are about two-feet long, and one foot wide) ...

we are more alike then you want to believe. toby bought me two double angel trumpet plants. i have trained them into becoming trees about 5' high over a year and a half. the double angel's have a jasmine smell. i also have one some lady from canada gave that she grew with seeds. it doesn't want to grow up a stake.

my doubles are in a pot with the bottom cut out so they are really in the ground. i started with wrapping the dominent branch and wrapping it around the stake with the green stretchy tape and continuing to remove all the little branches that wanted to grow out the mini-tree, and continuing to save the dominent branch. another half a foot and i will let it branch out like an umbrella.

i'm glad you mentioned the night blooming. i never thought to look. but tonight i will. my flowers grow and hang down. do your flowers grow up facing the moon?

Yes our flowers do 'point up' towards the moon or dark sky. When we wake up in the morning they are still open and beautiful. But as the sun rises and it gets warmer, they wilt and shrivle up. We remove those daily.

There are so many blooms though, that every night we have a new batch of them. I'm going to check and see right now, how many I have blooming tonight, be right back..........ok, I'm back. Tonight I have seven blomming at this moment! Last night we had eleven of them!

I'll have to see if I can train my plant to grow upward like a tree, as you have. That would be cool!

Maybe we do have more in common than I thought... :>)
