My hope is that if the recall is successful at the polls and Arnie is the one elected, that he'll recognize his limitations and surround himself with a team who'll help bring a bit of sense to the state government here ...

For more than a generation, we've had state legistlators who once in Sacto abdicate all their responsibiities in order to assure that they will not (tick) off any voters by voting for or against anything that any voter is either for or against (which, they hope, will help to perpetuate themselves in office and feeding at the public trough

Then we've compounded our problems by voting into office, a succession of bad choices for governor, topped by one of the weakest governors the stat's ever seen ... it's small wonder that the current state gov't is in utter shambles ...

I've been supportive of the idea of Arnie for Gov., even though he has an apparently absolute lack of big-time management and administrative experience ... but I must say, the more recently announced candidacy of Peter Ueberroth has given me cause for reconsideration ... Ueberroth is the single man among the far-too-long slate of candidates that I could go to the polls and vote FOR without doubt or hesitation ...

I tend to agree with you on that one Steve. My first choice would be Cruz. He has the ability to put together a good recovery team. But he also tends to be stupid in public from time to time.

Ueberroth would be interesting to see. Unfortunately you cannot run the State like a business. There are too many issues that go beyond dollars and cents that make the job of Governor more broad based, requiring a sense of human nature.

Those who have lived at the top of the economic ladder for so long have lost their sense of what concerns common folks. When is the last time most of the top candidates have had to skip buying a certain car because the payments are too high?

When is the last time one of the top candidates wrote a check for their taxes and had to cancel their kid's trip to Disneyland? (I'll own that one).

When is the last time any of them had to make a choice between a week of food or a week of rent?

There are greater issues at hand other than the title. I absolutely believe Schwartznegger is in it for 3 things.
1.) Image...bragging rights. Understand, the guy loves himself, has been self posessed for his whole life. Married a semi cute Kennedy. Makes movies that feed feed feed his ego.
2.) Power. You don't become a body builder without a hunger to be more powerful than the next guy. Still feeding that ego.
3.) Family. He has a huge Kennedy shove from behind to be politically active. Most of the Kennedy's have lost their public appeal over time. But they are still one of the most politically powerful families in the country. Now they have a big, well known, well liked puppet. You don't think there will be a Kennedy hand behind everything Arnie does? Don't kid yourself.

Prediction: Arnold by a landslide. Surrounds himself with very intelligent advisers (remember Ronnie Ray-Guns?, yeah, he's the one that said "I'm not a politician, I'm just a good public speaker and I know when I need help"). Huge success as governor. State senate in 10 years. Amendment to the constitution and poof! President Schwarzeneggar.

There was a scene with Stalone(sp?) and something about Pres. Arnold. I can't quite remember which scene it was. Have to rent it I guess, or like I said, maybe I'm thinking of a different movie?

No just saw Demolition Man again the other day.Sandra Bullock was explaning why Taco Bell was the last restaraunt chain left over from the restaraunt wars during the Schwarzenegger Administration.Stalone deadpans and says you got to be kidding me that guy was President! I LOL'd it was pretty funny stuff even before the recall election and the everything thats bad for you is illegal bit hits pretty close to home these days as well.Don't you think?

Arnold is a great guy. Saying he isn't qualified because he hasn't been sucking the blood from taxpayers long enuff like the other candidates is kind of un-American. The Founding Fathers liked the idea of citizen politicians. How can you cavalierly dismiss someone who came to this country penniless and is now worth $400 million and who didn't bootleg scotch or sell drugs to get it? 'Course, he did marry into the family of one of those...

I think we need MORE UNqualified politicians myself. The QUALIFIED politicians created the mess.
