Has anyone thought of putting together a cigar taste test panel from this board?

I was jut thinking that we could get a core group of people together to buy boxes of cigars (or obtain donations), randomly choose members from the board to act as tasters, and have them provide reviews of the cigars sent out. We could use the form posted on the picture post for the reviews so they are standardized.

Perhaps ths could be a quarterly thing and see if we could get corporate sponsors.

This was just a random thought I had while waiting for my laundry to dry.

Hey "hoagie55" Sounds cool to me and I think it would be quite useful to every one. As long as there were not only The Refined Gar smokers but some average smokers on that board.. Sounds like it would be really informative and Extremely helpful for some one who had never tasted a certain cigar and wondered about them..TinMan

It's sort of informally like that now. There are certain folks that seem to have tastes similar to mine. When they give their opinions I pay attention because I know from experience that I'm likely to agree with them.
Then there are others that I know to ignore completely. For instance if someone likes Lars Tetens, or Acids I know their tastes don't jive with mine.
And then there are a few who seem to love everything they try.
Finding the right reviewer can save you a lot of money and space in your humis.

The Penguin13/Jd1 series of blind taste tests here a couple months back were some of my favorite threads. I'd love to see a reprisal of this type thing.

I'm not sure of the mechanics to make a taste test fair and uniform with a diverse group in seperate locations and times, but it might be fun.
I trust my pallet more with reviews of wine but would like to try it.

This sounds like a great Idea. I mean you have a cross section of cigar smokers, from the newbie to the experienced herfer.
I do some reviews, for my local tobacconist. He gives me 3 fivepacks with bands removed, everynow and then, say 3 every quarter, of a year. I smoke them, write a review, and he gives me a box, or bundle, of the smokes I give the highest rating to. Every now and then I get a real gem, but with all the closeouts, since the cigar boom ended, I have to do reviews of some not so great cigars. But the benefits have been great. I would love to get involved.
