Just wondering what everyone else does when the doorbell rings and you spy the UPS driver (skinny legs and all) heading back to the truck and you open the door and there's the box of Manna from Pennsylvania.

What do you do?

Cut the box open, look for matches (aha!) and then what? Open each ziploc bag one at a time, inspecting, sniffing, then lay them all out before putting them "to bed"? Or put them in the 'dor as fast as possible? Or do you give in to temptation and smoke one immediately, knowing full well that they haven't been in optimum conditions for their trip to your house?

Or do you put on some Engelbert Humperdinck music, light a candle, get naked and ... oh, wait. That's me.

Just wondering.

Damn. I had the naked and cigar part down but knew I was missing something. Gotta pull out the old Englebert LP 🙂

I know what you mean, I know I should wait, but always have to light up one right after a delivery. It just would feel right not to.

I play some marvin gaye, get a bottle of massage oil. get naked. Nothing like prancing around naked to "Let's get it on" while dripping of massage oil and playing with your new matches.

What's all this naked talk???

The question above (this post) is a good one. What do I do when I hear the doorbell and know it's a CB/CI package? I don't know, I haven't reveived my first package yet. But the UPS website tells me that should happen tomorrow, so I guess I'll find out what my ritual is, or at least get to creat a new one...

Godfather,

Please let us know what happens when the matches actually come in contact with the oil. Oh and Please no pictures are necessary. 🙂

1. Grab the box with eager anticipation like a kid at Christmas (still the same giddy feeling since my first cigar package years ago).

2. Open it immediately and inspect.

3. Check for matches

Nowadays...

4. I use 2 of my digis and a ziploc to test their humidity over a day or 2. If things are in order, then I'm on 'em. I'll then test out another 2 brands with the same method until they've all been tested. I've had too many bad experiences with good cigars that just weren't ready.

The 1st thing I do is look where my wife's at and decide if I'll have time to sneak them into my cabinet or hide the box until later. I've instructed my UPS driver(with a $20.00 Christmas gift every year) not to blow his horn when he backs into my driveway. If I get caught which seems more often that not. I show her the invoice, you know where they put "price paid" and then
underneath "regular price" to show her how much I saved. And then change then subject as fast as possible. Most times I still get "The Look".

Since my wife gets home before me, I usualy get the dreaded, "you got ANOTHER package today" phone call 😞 I've given up trying to explain the sickness. We both agreed that whatever dollar amount I spend on cigars, she gets to buy that much in candles. And let me tell you...thats A LOT of candles!

I get all of mine at work. I make a big show of it to my boss - "Wow! Another package! Man, look at these CAO's! And at HALF price!!" (he's a cigar smoker, but hasn't come to the dark side yet). Then I put them in my office humi. At then end of the day I leave some at the office and take the rest home with me.... in my briefcase.... and then quickly run to my cooler and drop them off before the wife sees.... I usually spend the weekend going through my stash, updating inventory (in my mind) and just basking in the glow....

Hey Raven,
Watch out, almost all oils are flamable. Don't want body parts going up is smoke, along with that stogie.

P.S. My roomate is a nonsmoker, so he just rolls his eyes, and hangs out on the porch, when my cbid deliveries arrive. He knows that the house will be smokey for awhile. I have a sign in my livingroom, that says "PLEASE Refrain from breathing while I am smoking." Every now and then, he gives in and smokes a Perdomo, and says, if ya can't beat em join em. LOL

My ritual usually begins with getting upset at UPS. Because I track my delivery and see them sitting in the warehouse up in Richmond, CA before they find their way to Sunnyvale, CA and onto my house. Ever since UPS changed their logo, their service stinks (worst than the worst cigar you ever smoked).
OK, so my cigars are in Richmond on Tuesdays (I live 45 minutes from that warehouse) and I begin to drool. Thursday when they are scheduled to be delivered, I'm stuck at work, but my GF is at home. After the Big Brown Truck leaves, she calls and asks if I expected a package, well duh! She hasn't figured out why I start drooling around the house on Tuesday. When I finally get home I imediately open up the package and find my matches, phew. then I cradle the zip locks like a little baby and open. Before I lay them to rest, I trim off the excess cello so they can breath easier, and helps with handling. I usually put one in my traveldor (more humidity and first to smoke) and the others get some well deserved rest. Especially after what UPS puts them through!

Unfortunately I didn't get to put my delivery ritual in to practice this morning. I Went to class the whole time thinking.. "I need to leave a note for the UPS man so he'll leave the package for me."

So I get home, get my key out and look toward the door... and there's the package! I was so happy...

It was the package I got from CI, not CB, so I hope that comes today (I guess regular mail, I can't remember)... Today I got an Xicar, CAO Flavors sampler, and Mayorga Kenya AA... I will try something tonight, and I can't wait. Work's end can't come too soon.

I know what day the package is supposed to arrive and am always frantic about rain since my crummy UPS driver is to cheap to put the box in a bag. I made it home 10 minutes late once and the box was soaked, but the gars were ok.
Matches? Never got one.
Wife? - she pays the bills anyway, so Ill get Biatched at eventually anyway.

I get mine delivered to work, but only because nobody's home during delivery hours.

1. Open
2. Inspect.
3. Into a ziploc for two days in the freezer.
4. One day in the fridge.
5. Overnight at ambient.
6. Into the humidor, cello on.
7. Wait at least a week, if possible, though I have been know to plunder upon receipt in times of great need.
