I figured it was time for me to get off of the "Miscellaneous" board and start some cigar talk.

A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a Montecristo White at a local shop. I'm at work at the moment, so I can't take a look at the actual cigar. I believe it is a Toro 54 X 6 and ran somewhere around $10.00, give or take a dollar.

I've read that they are of limited production and constructed in a different manner than a typical Dominican Montecristo. It is advertised as having an Ecuadorian Connecticut seed wrapper instead of the usual Connecticut shade. It also has a Nicaraguan binder in addition to both Dominican and Nicaraguan filler, as opposed to the usual Dominican-only filler.

Has anyone smoked one yet? From the review I have read, it sounds like a good one! Obviously it is one reviewer's opinion. I have half a mind to try it now and grab some more if it really moves me.

I was real excited when I saw these. I bought a handful and lit a robusto up at the store. The first third was great, but then the exploded on me. By the time I got half way down it looked like a blooming flower. I would normaly think it was a bad stick, but a friend had the samething happen to him. I did think it was much lighter than the Platnium. I'm going to wait a few weeks and try another one, maybe they need a little sleep.

I have several of these (toro size) and smoked the first one the other night, same day they came in the mail. Very nicely made. I had no problems with mine. The burn was nearly razor perfect right down to the band. Similar to other regular Montes I have smoked it started off a bit on the mild and boring side but then developed additional complexity and taste beginning with the middle 1/3 . Was a very enjoyable smoke the rest of the way.

Well...I know for a fact that you smoked one 🙂 So, what did you think?

The smoke wasn't half bad at all. It was definitely a different flavor than the typical Dominican Montecristo. I ended up smoking a new one while at a local shop with "Penguin13" rather than the one I have sitting in my humidor. It was a tubed Montecristo White Court and weighed in at 5 1/2 X 44.

I have to agree with "smaddox" and "turnberry" for the most part. It was smooth and mild for about the first 1/3rd but nothing too exciting. It was a pleasant enough taste that I'd definitely smoke another.

It started to get a little harsh with the 1/3rd. I purged the stick and smoothed it out a little. Some harshness remained, but nothing too ashy-tasting. The flavor really opened up while smoking the middle 1/3rd.

While smoking the last 1/3rd, it died out on me twice and threatened to die out a third time before I saved it. All the while, the burn was perfect and it held a nice firm ash. It left a nice after taste that I could only describe as "clean" or "crisp." The smoke was thick, plentiful, and filled up the shop nicely. 🙂

I'd like to see how the slightly older Montecristo White turns out after sitting in the humidor for a while. On a related note: while at the local shop, I picked up two Montecristo Afrique Uhuru at 5 X 47. These will be my first from the Afrique line.
