There has been a lot of postings on here and elsewhere on there not being an 858 SG release this year. At the shop I picked up my 858 SG rosadas today, the guy told me there DEFINITELY WILL be an 858 SG release this year! I grilled him good on it and he assured me there would be. I feel 99.9 percent confident that he's not pulling my leg. In fact he said he's confirmed Fuente is sending him 4 boxes. He has always had a very good selection of Fuentes--more than anyone I've seen in the valley and he's been in the same location since 1979. Sure a lot can happen between now and December but keep an eye out because these will probably go faster than the last batch if what he says is fact. Keeping my fingers crossed...and toes..and eyes...wait not my eyes...

Very odd indeed ... and we shall see if he's got his facts straight, or not.

Don't get you hopes up too high ...

Carlito has posted several times over at the Cigar Family website, that there will NOT be a release this year ...

... and I'm more apt to take his word over a retail tobacconist. They have been known to give out misinformation every now and then ...

I am in on the box split, but I have doubts about the availability. I was at a shop in Cincinnati that has been in business for over 100 years and carries the full Fuente line including many Opus X's. I asked about the flor fina SG's and they said that only the shops that won the "display contest" received one or two boxes this year. They told me that future releases are doubtful. After all the hype from Slim, I can't wait to try one, but alas, no where to find them.

There is still that part of me that is doubting what he was telling me, then again how many companies have said that they weren't making a particular line any more? I think a lot of it has to do with Marketing spin and Fuente is one of the best at it. If I'm wrong, so be it; it won't be the first time. Just wanted to add to the hype already out there on the 858 SG by stating what I heard. If I'm right, please send me an 858 SG? LOL! I noticed that several Web sites have yet to remove your ability to order the 858 SG stating only that it is on backorder...granted Web sites don't always keep them up to date, but if this cigar truly was not being made again, as confirmed by Carlito, then IMHO, this line would have been removed so that you could not order it...and no, I'm not smoking all mine just yet!

Carlito said that it was not going to be released THIS year ... and said nothing about future releases, though it's questionable as to whether or not he ever will again.

Many people close to Carlito (he is not saying), have said that he may not release it again ... but of course, we all hope that isn't so ...

It's only been released three times, so far. It was Arturo Fuente's personal and very private cigar (when he was living), and was not released until after his passing. The decision to release it to the public in the first place, was a hard decision for Carlito and his father ... and was done so after much consideration.

What I think may have changed his mind about future releases ... is the fact that ther were certain individuals who were cornering the market on them. You could see it clearly over at the CF website. They would have people all over the country buying up as many boxes as they could, and then they would buy, trade, etc., them from those people.

It was very common to hear people boast that they had 20, 30 ... even more boxes in their collections. Many times you would see the boxes pop up on other auctions sites, going for rediculous inflated prices.

I honestly believe this didn't set very well with Carlito. He wanted all to experience the cigar the patriarch of Fuente considered his finest achievment and favorite cigar ...

... and I honestly believe that many of the greedy profiteers ruined it for the rest of us ...

I agree Slim. I hope there will be a release. Unfortunately because Fuente has limited releases, there will be those dealers that will not spread these around so that everyone can try them. They will sell their entire allotment or boxes at a time as it seems evident that's what many are doing. As you pointed out, many have boxes and boxes for auction at inflated prices. My 858 SGs were 4.75 each but you can bet this price will triple or more on the auction sites, and although supply and demand is at work here, I agree that this was not Carlito's intention. Not very many people can afford to get a box at a time; including myself and it would be nice to grab a 5-pack or less. I think it falls on the dealers to not sell a box at a time when it comes to rare or limited release smokes like the Opus or 858 SGs and others I can't think of. But that will never happen.

I was mistaken in my thoughts about what Carlito had posted about future releases of the 858SG ... and it seems that there ...

WILL BE A RELEASE THIS YEAR!!!

It will be a very limited release, and those stores with the 858 Rosados, will be the ONLY ones getting the 858SG ... a month later.

jd1 ... you may just find out, that your tobacconist is probably correct ... 😉

Do you know how many boxes of 858 the selected places will get? Because a shop by my house got the 858 rosada SG and if they are going to carry multiple boxes of 858 I will have to get one. Time to start the pee-pee dance.

godfather1453406 --- you will have to ask the tobacconist how many boxes they are going to get ... each one will be different.

Also, with this being as limitied as it is ... most lkely they will have a daily limit on how many cigars you can buy at one time ...
