Since I have entirely too many smokes, I've decided to make myself a tupperdor for their storage.

Right now, I've got a pretty big tupperware container that I'd estimate will hold around 80 smokes. I've ordered some PG from my local pharmacy and it should come tomorrow, my hygrometer I got from CBid should be here today sometime, and I made a credo.

I got a little tupperware sauce holder, punched some holes in it with a knife, and put in a nice-sized block of wet florist's foam (Since my current humi holds about 40-50, I just put twice as much foam in my tupperdor, since it holds about twice as much).

I've got some sheets of cedar also. I just wanted to consult all of you knowledgable smokers before I put the whole thing together. Does everything sound right? Do I have enough foam in my homemade credo? Any special tips you guys can give I might not have thought of?

Also, does anyone know what kind of glue I can use to glue the cedar sheets to the side of the tupperdor? I know it should be odorless, but I have no idea what kind of glue to use.

I wouldn't use glue at all. I would simply cover the bottom of the container and then lay what's left on top of the cigars. No muss, no fuss. Then, when its time for an even LARGER container you can use the cedar in it without having to do anything.

here's an idea:

Do not use glue, instead line the bottom of the tupperdor with cedar sheet, now lay some cigars down, enough to cover the whole botom of the tupperdor. Before you put cigars on top of cigars, put another sheet of cedar ( like the cuban boxes ). This way every level of cigars has a cedar sheet.

Now, the better way of dooing it is... get a coolidor 🙂 you know that in 6 months you're going to be back on the forum asking:
"Help on building a coolidor"

Also you really don't need much of a humidifier in a tupperdor as they are for the most part air tight.It's very easy to over-humidify a tupperdor so just check it often in the begining and go from there.

Ditto - don't use glue, just put it on the bottom.

When I first made my tuppador, I tried using velcro to suspend the humidifying container from the lid of the 'dor. This just didn't work out well (I am using a Glad container with florist foam which is fairly heavy when humidified), but frankly I've had great success just letting the humidifying unit sit upright on one of the cigar boxes in the tuppedor (one side of the 'dor is stacked with boxes, the other is filled with individual cigars). You might experiment with this before resorting to the use of glue. I've had perfect results with this, and I like the flexibility of being able to move the humidifier around when I reorganize the contents of the 'dor on occasion.

made one last month and it works very well,I used old cigar box`s it was very easy and i now have lots of room. the only problem is all the gars i bought to fill it really pissed my wife off and now i need another room to sleep in

I put a thick piece of cedar or the wooden bottom of a box on the floor of the tupperdor. That way, if there is an accident, my gars don't get wet.
As far as glue, the only type that I have seen reccomended is a water-soluble one like Elmers.

Thanks for all the info goes. I ended up doing what all of you suggested, laying cedar in the bottom, and then putting it on top of each layer of smokes.

I'm going to get my PG from the pharmacy today, so I'll have to watch the credo carefully to make sure I don't overdo it.

I'm wondering if double sided tape might work to hold the sheets of cedar in place.

I have another question. I've read some places that air-circulation is an issue with tupperdors.

This will probably hold my everyday smokes (and I few to age on the bottom), so should I even worry about air circulation?

Just make sure to burp your tupperdore on occasion (weekly). This will keep the air circulated.

When you're a brand new parent, you tend to worry far too much about far too many things and spend too much time being overly cautious, as if the baby might break ...

Sorta the same thing here ... those cigars, while needing TLC and being vulnerable to rough treatment, are a bit tougher than you think ...

break up a cedar box or two, toss in some of the blocks that come in the boxes ... it'll work far better than you would apparently suppose ...

Thanks guys for all the help. I just charged my credo with a mix of PG and water (I had a little more PG than water, just because I like my smokes better at around 65%) and I'm letting her sit to see how they develop.
