I built a tuppador and the humidity went to 75 and stayed there, so I played with the mix of pg and then it wants to go way too low. I tried punching holes in the tuppador to allow some air exchange but it still goes to 75 with a 50/50 mix.

What do you all do to get the humidity right?

I'm having a similar problem with my tupperdor. Except mine hovers around 80%. (Using 50/50 and a small cube 3x3x3 of wet foam)

Am wondering about using a pop cap, or something equally small, but that wouldn't be a good solution either. Its almost got to be in the mix ratio.

I wonder if climaxx bead have the same porblems in a tuppador.

I have a ContainerStore-ador (sweater box) 2 1/2 sq. ft. volume with 1/2 lb. of climax beads and it hovers from 67% to 73%.

Is that one of those without an airtight seal?

And does it hover that much over a month or a day?

I have been thinking of getting something without an airtight seal.

I wonder whether having a few pieces of cedar in there would help stabilize the RH.

General comments:

Make sure your hygrometer is calibrated:

http://www.cigarsinternational.com/html/cig101_12st.asp  And digital is good, analog flakey. Even after I calibrated my analog, it keeps changing whenever bumped or something. Some day I'm going to take it out to a lake and see how many skips I can get with it.

I've had some issues with 50/50 myself. Cigars inside the 'dor, and cedar, do seem to help stabilize the humidity. I don't understand why that matters, but it does.

Airtight is better. For example, you wouldn't want you winter-heated 30% humidity house air sucking all the moisture out of the 'dor. I'm sure you'll open it once in a while to freshen the air.

Try using a SMALLER container with a SMALLER chunk of wet foam ... or simply put less water on it ... and consider the advise in that e-mail I sent the other day ...

Using a digital hygrometer. I took my time sifting through all the boxes and lids at The Container Store until I found one that fit tightly, but what I thought would allow some air exchange. I wouldn't say "air tight", but pretty snug. It only "snaps" closed at spots at the ends, not along the long edge. Periodically, I add a cap-full of water using the cap of a gallon jug of distilled H2O. It goes up to 73 for a few days then slowly drops. I check it once a week or so. If it gets down to 67 I open it up and add another cap of water. The beads are sitting in the cut off bottom of a plastic liter bottle, filling it about 1 1/2 inches. The indoor RH here near Chicago is 36% and dropping. It does a good job and it's easy.

I have both a Colemandor and a Rubbermaidor and have had perfect stable humidity using approsx 1/2 block of Oasis with 50/50 for a roughly 2 cu. ft. space.

I would consider allowing it to stabilize and adjust mixture in small increments from there.

Good luck
