Dogrockets. Buy 'em to take to the golf course if you've got to but there are much better (and cheaper) name brand smokes to be had on CBid.

Kelner Seconds are an excellent mild smoke for the price... if that's what you're looking for. BTW, I have some CAO Black in various sizes. Email me if you're still looking at rpope123 at bellsouth dot net.

http://www.cigarbid.com/auction/forum/forum.cfm?action=list&forumID=7&messageDisplay=0000000017847 ), some of which I might consider parting with.

Let me know. In the Blacks, I have Gothic, Bengal, Mosaic and Storm.

Cheers,

Grond

of the half dozen or so different alts I've tried, I got one good bundle of one type ... second bundle bundle of the same type proved to be a whole 'nuther story ... doubt I'll ever buy another alt of ANY type

Grond,
Thought I read that "Kelner Seconds" had become so popular that they are now banded and sold as "Special Blends" by Alex Bradley. Anyone else know about this?

tend to agree. Cbid has better stuff at comparable prices to alts. Trade board has other deals. There are a couple of post xmas specials going on which are pertty good for deal hunters. Seek and you shall find.

mrkmitch,
You are correct but there are still some Kelner Seconds offered on CBid as the 15 seconds of fame which are bundled with a Cigar smiley face humidor. They typically go for $15-$18. Well worth the money.

They arent THAT bad. But I agree with Steve, they aren't the most consistant smoke in the world. Although I dont normally buy into the whole "aging" thing, these do need to rest a little. Usually a little green.

I'll add to Steve & BeatDragon regarding inconsistency. Thanks to CBid, I don't think I'll be buying them again. Connies, well, that's another story, although I understand why some folk don't care for them. Part of the inconsistency problem is compounded by moderate aging: sometimes, alts improve a bit, but too often, they just stabilize.

i've got 1/2 a bundle of alts in my humi (smoked the other half, and that's about all i have are the alts). first few i tried were just too damned hard on the draw. i'm talking "did i cut the cap?" type hard to draw.

these are the cuban alts for ERDM, btw. i've never had an original ERDM, though, so i've nothing to compare it to.

the wife got me a sampler for the holidays, so i had something else to smoke and could let the alts sit there for a couple of weeks. just had one tonight, and it's considerably better than it was the week of christmas.

i've gotten a few more sticks since, so i'm just going to let the alts sit there and hibernate. i'll try one come spring and see if it's any better. the TASTE is not bad, i have to say. a bit strong for me (get nozzed out around the halfway point), but otherwise these weren't bad at all.

Generally, they're POS IMHO, but I've had good ones. Not worth the gamble. Pick up some Savinelli 2nds or Don Kiki Ltd Reserves or Cupidos for good, cheap smokes.

Tried the JR's many times, but was disappointed every time. Not exactly dog rockets, but nothing I would consider putting in any of my humidors.

To me they're not a bad cigar with two caveats: 1. You definitely need to age them for a while because, for reasons of their own, they tend to ship extremely moist and will not draw properly, 2. You have to accept up front that they are going to be pretty much inconsistent (the first two may taste great, and the second one taste like crap). For the money invested you can pretty much afford to take a chance. However, I'd look around for the "known quanity" for a better deal prior to ordering from JR. Just my thoughts.........

P.S. I've gotten some really surprizingly good cigars from them, and I've gotten some really dissappointing cigars from them. Pretty much the "luck of the draw."

That should be, "and the third one may taste like crap." Just wanted to set the record straight............
