hey guys (and gals):

i was just curious after completing a trade that was at least in part not all about sticks (i had lighters; he had compu-stuff): anyone like to trade non-cigar stuff? i mean, sure, part of it could be cigars -- like "i'll trade five XYZ sticks for a v-cutter" -- but at least part of the goods would be of the non-smokeable variety.

i don't have anything specific in mind right now, but i wanted to toss the idea out for a thread of trades in this vein. people could give or receive sticks in trade for things like lighters, cutters, hats, cd's/dvd's/videos, books, nice pens, knives or multi-tools -- just whatever.

thoughts?

Take a look this is pretty common. I currently see a hat, music and lighters. In the past I have seen DVDs and even a laptop.

thanks for the point-out, guys.

what i'm thinking, though, is to start it as a thread, like the PIF or (now) the PIB. in other words, if someone has something (non-sticks) to trade, post it here and see if anyone bites.

Lots of people like coffee. Trading for beans might not be a bad idea. Also a coffee PIF might be a good idea.

for instance and to kick it off creatively...

let's call this the "Mister Cleo" trad e:

in trade for 1 stick per day, your choice, i'll give you up to 5 days' worth of sound advice via email on any "personal life issues" that may be cluttering up your head or heart. if i think that i absolutely can NOT help you out, then the trade is, of course, null and void.

that would be advice on whatever personal life issue you choose, conducted via email, say up to 3 emails daily (short one-liners don't count), in trade for one cigar for each day of advice you want.

i want to fill my humidor; you can have top-notch help from your own personal "life coach."

do it for kicks. do it to resolve that problem that's been nagging you. do it because you're bored. whatever. i will deliver advice based upon broad life experience, several years of psychology and sociology study, uncanny intuition and whatever wisdom and insight god gave me. 🙂

any takers?

pusky: sure thing! coffee would be a very good trade item, and very popular, too.

this can be either a garage sale kind of thing (never know who might want that old oster blender made of steel) or a barter thing trading know-how or skills or anything in-between. maybe there IS someone out there who wants your size 10 doc martens with the Dead Kennedys paint stenciling you did your freshman year of high school. 🙂

There are some things I would like that I would be interested in trading cigars for. A smallish humidor would be one thing. A decent burr coffee grinder is another. Also one of those SAK cutters. So if anyone has any of the above that they would trade for some cigars then email me at rwitham at bradley dot edu.

Maybe I can be the first in this thread to get the ball rolling:P

there ya go, mr. o 🙂

yeah, i'd trade a full five days of personal advising for a cutter or punch of any kind except a one-blade guillotine, too. preferably not a piece of junk. 🙂

mroptimistic, I'll keep you in mind for the burr grinder. Mine is not grinding as fine as I would like it (for espresso). It is brand new and works awesome for drip and other coffee purposes. I may be replacing it in the upcoming weeks. If I do, I'll give you a shout and see if you are interested in a trade. If you dont hear from me, you'll know that I decided to keep it.

Coffee does sound interesting but holy crap DK Docs, now that is worth something. Fresh fruit, rotting veggies, jello and a bowl of rice a day. The good old days.

BD: hey, at maximumrockandroll (NOT a cigar site, btw) i've seen such trades go up for tunes. if there, hey, maybe here, too. surely there are some old school punks who smoke cee-gars out there? 🙂

and interesting trade options, guys! looking to see more, hopefully.

I'll trade you my ripped army jacket with the Operation Ivy - "Energy" album cover drawn on the back for a pair of DK docs!

PS - my favorite tasty treat from those days was uncooked ramen (gas got shutoff) dipped in peanut butter. Yummy...
