hey guys, im having a hard time understanding how just a different binder might change a cigars taste. is it like a steak(filler)with bacon(binder) and A1 (wrapper)?...help on understanding the strengths..why would one piece of binding even be tasted with all the filler? thanks guys

not sure I understand it myself, but they say about 80% of a cigars taste is in the wrapper. I imagine the binder has a significant impact also. I imagine it's because the wrapper has direct contact with your mouth, and imparts some of it's taste directly to your tastebuds without even burning.

Send me about half of your cigars. I will send detailed analysis of each and every wrapper, binder and filler as I smoke them. LOL Seriously, I also have been under the impression that the wrapper has the greatest impact on a cigars taste. "KoS"

Hmm, I always thought it was the other way around, that there are many basic types of wrapper and that they contribute roughly 20% depending on size and wrapper and that filler was the majority. I wonder if anyone has official info on which side is correct. I thought I read it somewhere but for the life of me cant remember where it was.

Posting on this is definitely going where angels fear to tread! Think about it: if it were all so simple, then any fool could blend a great cigar (or pipe tobacco) [given the proper tobacco & time for the blend to marry]. The not so distant "boom" suggests not everyone can do this -- & certainly short-cuts can be disastrous.
Filler, wrapper & binder contribute to the final taste. A manufacturer could certainly use pretty much the same tobacco for all three [think of homogenized, reconstituted stuff in machine made products], but many put in several variations. I suspect blending tobaccos is a bit like blending perfume: one strikes a balance of elements, including among other things the relative amount of available nicotine. With some manufacturers, obviously the visual appeal of the wrapper is a major consideration -- & there are great smokes that are beautiful to hold. With others, the wrapper ain't nearly so pretty, but boy does it seem to be tasty! To push the perfume analogy a bit, there's tobacco in the filler/binder that contributes to the base, while other tobaccos [filler/wrapper/binder] add in the top notes & the complexity.
No, I don't buy all the filligreed descriptions in most reviews, but I think most experienced cigar smokers recognize "what they like" about a particular smoke -- & most have one or more flavor "profiles" they find interesting.
In closing, if the wrapper was so important, most of us might develop our own dos capas, laying a tasty topping on all those dog-rockets & almost mediocre products floating around!
But hey, whatdoIknow...?

They might want to consider a wrapper and/or binder change for Lone Wolfs..................
