After doing a search about hygrometers the general take is that everyone suggest digital. The specks on the digitals I've had in the past say +/-5% RH within what I'll call a normal range. Just setting up a new humidor and calibrated the analoge (As best I new how), seasoned the humidor and got a stable 73% by the analoge. So I put 3 newly purchased digitals ($40.00 a piece)in the humidor and let the thing rest for 72 hours. I get three different readings. One at 73%(which matched the analoge, one at 69 and one at 67. My question is this. Can I reasonably follow that the 73 digital is correct and the others vary within the tolerance range? Or rather take and average of the 3. Lastly, do I really need to worry over a few %? I have found in the past that 65 - 68 smokes best for me.

Thanks in advance for any helpful input.

Radio Shack, 20 bucks, temp and Humi. Salt test it, if it is too far off, take it back and try again. I have 3 of them, all 2 percent off. I returned 2 in the process, one of 6% and one off 5%.

digital hygrometers, by factory specs, can have a + or - 5% error. radio shack has the most reasonable prices, so buying one just gets you a more expensive, made in china, device, that has the same + or - deviation.

when you do the salt test, the easiest way to deal with the deviation is by marking the deviation on the hygrometer with a marking pen, ie +3 or -2. subtract or add the noted deviation and that will tell you where you hunidity really is.

if you want to tinker and are a little handy, the pot can be adsusted. if you don't know what a pot is, you are probably best using the above method.

if your curiosity has taken hold,
