I am new to the stogie scene. I know that the ring is a measure for the circumference of the cigar but what can I gauge it by? In laymans terms. Thanks.

As I recall, the ring gauge is the diameter, measured in 1/64th's of an inch. A robusto that is a 50 ring is 50/64th's of a inch in diameter, for example.

1/64th .........so a .60 ring is 60/64th of an inch.

If you need visual, they show ring gauges in catalogs and in many of the books such as The Cigar Companion.
