Thought you all would like to see the new toy I brought home yesterday. No more tent, no more pop-up. We're movin' on up, just like "The Jeffersons."

hensed,
I towed the camper home with a 1999 model V8 Explorer. Weight distributing hitch keeps the camper and truck level. Brakes on the camper make stopping easy enough. V8 engine is enough power to drive 65 when I get more comfortable towing 25 feet of trailer. The main problem is mirrors. There is not a custom towing mirror for the Explorer and the strap-ons are awful.

Of course, I still need to learn how to back the trailer into a campsite, too...

aaaaahhhhh the joys of towing. I'm sure it is different towing a camper but I got a 24' boat and with the trailer I'd imagine we are pretty close in length. I've been through 3 tow vehicles now my first was just a 5.7 liter Bronco which behaved terrible because of the short wheelbase. Then I went to an F150 quad cab with the same engine and that worked out much better. After I tired of that one I ended up with a F250 turbo diesel super crew and let me tell you that is the bomb of all tow vehicles. The only problem I have now is that my overall length of truck and trailer is damn close to semi size and parking lot maneuvers now become a real treat especially true since every yahoo and their brother seems to own a boat and none of them know how to park correctly. LOL

that's a beauty!

if i had the means and all, i'd like nothing more than to snag a big ol' ram and one of these prowlers and just spend the rest of my life roaming around the USA in it. my wife loves to travel, so i'm sure she'd be all for it. the 3 dogs might be a bit peeved, though the rottie does like to "go for a ride with daddy." 🙂

very nice, sir!

I just ordered a 33ft Prowler, to replace my 30st Salem. I wasnt thrilled with my Salem. I have 6 kids so I need one with a slide out and quad bunks!! Last year I had to buy a Chevy Suburban with the 454,to tow the camper and the 8 of us. Take it slow and backing will get easier. Always have someone helping you, and use a 2way radio if you have one, so if you cant see your helper at least you can hear them.

Goodluck

The bigger truck is next on the list. I have a line on a used Lincoln Navigator. Notice I said USED. The reason for the Lincoln is that it has quad captain's chairs and a third row bench seat to keep the kids from hurting each other on long trips.
