Anyone interested in this trade? I'll supply premuims/ super premiums to you if you provide me with a GPS unit. I'm looking for specifically the Garmin eTrex unit (the yellow one that I think everybody who has one has). Will take better GPS, but nothing worse than the eTrex. I know someone here has one they never use 😃 .

For the price of an e-trex these days you should just buy ya one and save the stix. When you do get one check out geocaching.com, it's a treasure hunt with a gps. I've been doing it for about two years now and have a ball.

Yeah, I've been doing geocaching for about two DAYS 😃 . Had an old GPS from work that's just ancient (about a 100 foot resolution ~ a 3 satellite one).

I figured there was surely someone who just had one laying around that they never use. If not, then yeah, I'll probably just drop the cash for one.

Your comment about an anceint GPS Unit using three satelites isn't that anceint, heheheee. If you know anything about GPS then you know that you have to have a minimum of three satelites to determine your positioning (X, Y, & Z). You still get better positioning with more satelites to reduce the numerous errors, even in todays world.

In a hand held unit to get good accuracy (+/- 10 feet),
You need to get a GPS Unit that uses the WAAS signal.

The WAAS signal can provide accuracy up to 10 feet and is currently available only in the US, and only in open areas or on the water. Standard handheld GPS accuracy is 50 feet.

The ETrex does not use the WAAS signal (to my knowledge), so you might want to reconsider your options if your looking for accuracy.

Hey KNOF were a little more accurate than that these days. I work for the squadron that flies the GPS birds.
My job is to travel to the differt stations around the equator and make sure the contractors are doing things correctly. Selective service was turned off and brought the accuracy down to about the best your going to get. Until the new system that is in the works comes online. When that happens the accuracy will be even better.

And KNOF, any way you know of to make sure I'm getting one that uses WAAS? I can't seem to tell in the descriptions I'm reading. Most say "compatable" or something... Thanks.

I have E-trex Vista (grey one same size as yellow but with more options) and it does use WAAS for best results travel to Hawaii!

No need to explain the accuracies to me about GPS.
I'm a land surveyor and we have units that are the most accurate of all (centimeter accuracy). The satelites that transmit the signal have been orbiting since the mid 1980's and only have been getting easier to use as technology gets better. The biggest difference is the size of the receiver, in this case, we are still improving on the hand held units.

Just another tool in the tool belt.
