got a 5 pack of torano ex 59 pyramides in three weeks ago from c-bid, tried one the same day and had trouble getting it to draw, just couldnt get any smoke. thought i would put them in humi for a couple of weeks to rest..well tried another tonite and it was worst than the first one, it would not draw enough to get any smoke, tried cutting it down further twice and that didnt help any, all other torano's i have smoked have been outstanding but this bid winner turned out to be a loser...kenny

hey, k -- man, i'm sorry to hear that. i've yet to have a draw or construction problem with ANY toraño, but i will say that the first goldie i smoked was a bit on the tight side. then again, i had it in a 70% humi. the second one i tried drew like a dream, but i'd kept it for 3 weeks in my 65% humi. my only guess would be that humidity would be the problem. perhaps try dry boxing one for a day before you smoke another? or keep them at a lower humidity for 2-3 weeks. i'll email you here in a sec, too. sorry you had a bad experience with them. :/

doh! nevermind. i don't HAVE your email addy. anyway, what i was going to say is this -- while i think that some drier humi time will make a difference, if you decide that you don't want to smoke the rest, let me know -- i'd be glad to trade you those for others of the toraño line. i really do love these cigars (all toraños that is), and this is only the second time i've EVER heard of someone having a draw problem with any of them.

hey, ken -- just sent an email to you. honestly, i've had trouble with cigars (various) tunneling and canoeing and having tight draws when keeping them at 70%. a BOTL edumacated me and suggested lowering the % of rh, and i've had only a rare draw problem since.

i'll pick you out some nice ones and get 'em ready to go hopefully tomorrow. again, sorry that you had a bad experience with these, and i hope you'll try the golds again sometime. i'm glad to hear that you've liked the others, tho! imo, toraño is one of the best smokes out there for every reason i love cigars -- the construction, the burn, the taste, the price and the family behind 'em. 🙂

email comin' at'cha!

Smoked a robusto this weekend (my first Torano) that also had a draw problem. What a let down.

I'd say try giving them some dry box time for a day before you smoke them - but at 67-70% I have NEVER had this happen. I've smoked several boxes worth of CT gold and silver and never had one draw problem - weird...(oh, and these are SO good - you really shouldn't quit on them because of this )

I have had draw problems, with Torano Golds, when they are straight from my 70%, long term storage humi. But I have never had trouble at 65%. Some cigars, need a little drier conditions to burn well, but they age best at 65%. Damn Cavallo bet me to the trade suggestion. LOL
At least with this thread, the bid prices may dip a little.

ksmith, sorry to hear of your problem. I have yet to have a draw problem with any of the Toraño line even at 70% humidity. But as we all know, anything that is handmade can have a problem.

Curious to see how you fare with the 1916's which are my personal favorite in the Toraño line.

Enjoy,

DRJ

pablonte: which toraño did you have troubles with? i'm totally out of toraños for now or i'd talk to you about sending one out of what you had. :/

hey, kenny -- yours goes out in the morning (my wife missed the POB yesterday). while it's still here, though, i tucked a cd in there that i think you'll like.

there's a couple of 1916s (torpedo and a toro i think) in there, a Brick and a Signature and a few other misc. smokes -- all the toraños have had at least a month of humi time at 65% -- give those a try and let me know how they go for you. i'm going to store those goldies in my 65% humi for a week and light one up, see how it goes, and i'll let you know.

i understand your frustration, but i DO hope that you'll give the exodus another chance sometime. initially i didn't care much for this one (taste profile), but the second one i had was OUTSTANDING.

as the guys here have indicated, a draw problem's rare, but (as drjothen noted) anything "hecho a mano" can get difficult.

btw, drj was one of the guys who suggested to me in my brandspankingnewbie-hood to try keeping my 'gars at a lower rh%. no matter WHAT cigar -- ashtons, alts, perdomo (bigtime with perdomo) -- i was having trouble with the draw being tight and also had LOTS of problems with cigars tunneling/canoeing. took the advice, and i've not had one go south on me since. 🙂
