i love an EC-SU wrapper. i'm getting to know and love the criollo and the rare corojo. the sungrown maddie is a joy to be cherished.

but the first cigar that grabbed me by the taste buds and said "i am the one for you, baby!" was a CTSH wrapped cigar. her name was fonseca (2-2), and i owe her bigtime. 🙂

right now an ashton classic toro (thanks to mydsooner's great PIB package!) and remembering how much i enjoyed the first ashton (an 898) i ever had. i liked that one because it was mild and gentle on my newbie palate. my tastes have grown and expanded since then, but an ashton classic is still a fine, fine, wonderful delight of a cigar!

i have only had 3 cigars with CTSH wrappers that i liked, but those three remain high in my regard and first and foremost on my list of "cigars i reallyreally

reallyreallyreally wish i had!"

1. fonseca 2-2 (only size i've had)

2. ashton classic

3. suarez gr royal corona

how's about you guys/gals? what CTSH cigars are your favorites? which ones have been disappointments?

The ashton classic was one of the first cigars that really awoke my tastebuds - still good! Can't beat CTSH for those mellow days...

oh yeah... how could i leave out the LJ? *drooool*

actually, the LJ reminded me quite a bit of the Suarez i had -- and cannot for the life of me find ANYWHERE now. :/ (it came as part of a sampler my wife got me for the holidaze, but they don't have it in their sampler or otherwise now).

the thing about the CTSH on other cigars, though, is that i've found them to be brittle and too thin or they come unwrapped easily. also, the wrappers on the ashton, LJ and fonseca *always* taste good. consistently. but those are the only CTSH cigars i've had where that's the case. well, i take that back -- the one on the CAO golds i had (thank you, DMV!) were good like that, too.

other cigars' CTSH wrappers, though, have just had a nasty taste to them. kind of like tasting metal i'd say. anyone else notice this?

Baccarat, Don Tomas SE. I think Astral has a CTSH cigar or two.

Actually, I see Connecticut Shade wrapper in a description and I am like a moth to a light bulb. I have not had a bad one, and they are great for a milder smoke. After a steak I might want something more robust, but for having a nice after-work smoke with a couple of cold ones, a good Connecticut Shade-wrapped cigar is just right.

yeah, when i first started i couldn't imagine EVER wanting to smoke anything without a CTSH wrapper on it. i slowly discovered that a) not all CTSH cigars were good and b) not all non-CTSH were bad. 🙂

i still have a soft spot for the CTSH, though, and i'm always looking for something that tasted as good as those first brands i had.

i *think* that the astral i tried had a ctsh on it; if so, add that one to the list. ditto the pirate's gold, surprisingly.

my dream cigar remains a CTSH wrapper with a spicy/peppery filling.

so, sometimes i see a cigar described as having a "true premium CTSH wrapper." what's up with that? are there "fake" non-premium CTSH's?

thanks for the recommendation, jack. yeah, i've been wondering how FG's cigars are. i have a petrus forte in my humi, and i'm very curious about most of his smokes -- like the fat boys and the petrus. really any of his smokes i'm curious about except the flavored ones.

didn't FG make the sinatra?

yEP HE MADE tHE SINATRA. THE ONLY FELIPE I DON'T LIKE IS THE NICARO LANZA IT IS AN ORGANIC AND MAKES YOU REALIZE JUST HOW MUCH FLAVOR THOSE PESTICIDES DO ADD.

Started smoking cigars seriously in 1991 when I tried a Macanudo Hyde Park. Still one of my top choices.

I'm not much help here since I've just recently 'seen the light' as far as these CTSH wrappers go! But so far I've had some great Hoyo Excalibur II's (in CTSH of course!). Mmmmmmmm. It's a safe bet I'll be getting a lot more of these!

I have one Cu-avana Robusto left from a 5 pack I ordered. Didn't really like the first one, but the second was better and the third and so on. I think the one I have left has bloomed. It has a little crystalline glaze on it... I had never heard the term before coming here so I am not sure.

aahhhh, thanks jack! i wondered how the "organic" cigars would taste.

i rarely smoke CTSH cigars anymore, but those i do happen upon from time to time -- fonseca, helix nats, suarez (oh how i miss you, suarez!) and a couple others -- are real treasures.

i have had one cu-avana and thought it was "okay" but no big deal. same with the 1876. but i'll try both again for sure. lots of good suggestions here! thanks, folks!
