well, this newbellino is starting to find his way. 😃

i now know that i have a thing for HONDURAN cigars. woo hoo! my local store has a house brand that i thought was either nic or DR, but turns out that it's a honduran. doh! i've yet to find an everyday smoke that comes close to how delicious this one is, though, so i'm just going to assume that i really really really do like honduran smokes -- for the spicy-peppery flavor most of all.

i also *think* i like costa rican tobacco for the sweeter characteristics, but i've only had a couple. can anyone enlighten me on CR tobacco characteristics?

also, what do you recommend for an affordable "everyday" kind of cigar that's got that spicy honduran tobacco predominating?

thanks in advance.

Might want to try Nestor Reserves, I found them to be a pretty decent cheap hondie.

I will have to echo the El Rey Del Mundo. They rock. I recently tried the Indian Tabac Cuban Corojo (also Honduran) and they rock too. The ITCC can be had for less than 2 bucks each here at c-bid.

grazie! i actually have a couple of these that i've not yet tried. i have a couple HDM and one ERDM... haven't tried that particular IT cigar, but what i've tried of that line i have liked a lot (esp. the super fuertes!). i've had a couple punch rare corojo -- loved 'em.

thanks for the suggestion on the nestor, too. hadn't heard of that one.

bud, good to see ya posting! (i'm catching up on email, albeit sloooooooowly).

costa rican tobbacco used to be the best but there are hardly any quality brands using it now at one time Bahai did and they were fanfing tastic. as far as Hondurad I love those aged Dunhills Showing up on the auctions

Felipe has a number of smokes that are pretty good. I have a few of them. Made in Honduras. Some of the better cigars for an inexpensive price.

I never gravitated much toward Honduran cigars, just never liked the flavor ...

... now Nicaraguan cigars are a different story altogether, especially the puros ...

... the best cigars out there, IMHO.

I also agree with jackconrad on the Costa Rican tobacco, unfortunately most (if not all) factories have moved out due to the high costs of producing cigars there ... and what boxes are left are mostly all discontinued bands. If you can find them, at least they've got four to five years age on them.

Robert Harris in San Pedro Sula, Honduras writes, Here is a good list...Punch Champion, Indian Tabac Super Fuerte, Sancho Panza naturals, Puro Indios Pyramide, Hoyo M. Prensado Oscuro, Talanga Valley Corojo.

Avoid these...Bacaratt, Gregorio, Astral, accept the VSG, and Don Melo.

Saldos,

RDH

slim: i do like nicaraguan puros and also domincan puros. i think it's the flavorfully mellow yet peppery honduran that i like best.

thanks, rdh!

i've tried (and love): punch, IT superfuerte, PI. so far i've had one of each, but that one was great! haven't tried the others you mentioned.

i've not tried but DO want to try the gregorio line -- i think jack and i may have very similar tastes.

i have to say, too, that i LOVED the one astral that i had. i tried an astral TV line and didn't care for it, though. also have a single baccarat in the humi that i've yet to smoke. have to give that a try soon.

my local store sells an unbanded honduran puro that i'm just nuts about, and at $2.50 for a torpedo it's a decent price as well. just picked up a couple to send out in pifs/trades/etc. to see what others think of 'em, and i'd like to get a box to share one of these day.

My all-time standard go-to is the HdM robusto in double maduro. A very reliable cigar year in and year out and I have bought many of them on cbid for bargain prices.
