What a haul! You're making me do the pee-pee dance. You see, I'm about to fulfill a lifelong dream of living on the water in N.C. I don't think we'll be getting snapper to that extent. Mainly rockfish (striped bass for you lubbers), flounder, croakers, sea trout, sea bass, dolphin; etc.

This picture did bring back memories. I have a similar picure from a fishing trip out of Destin, FL. I went with my brother and his wife. We got so tired of catching fish that we eventually quit fishing and just drank. We still ended up with 50-60 snappers and a few grouper and other fish. Then we got home and had to clean them all.

Looks like a lot of filet work to me! How are these as a gamefish, i.e lively on the line, etc?

As I remember they didn't really fight much. It wasn't even fair to call it fishing. I went out on one of those party boats with 50 other people. The boat would stop, the captain sounded the horn, and you drop your line straight down. It took a little while to reach the ocean floor. As soon as it did, you reeled it back up and there were two fish on (one on each hook). It was kinda like bring up dead weight. I guess if you used light tackle it would be more of a challenge.

You could drop your line about 3-4 times and then the captain sounded the horn again. Everyone pulled in their lines and we'd move to the next spot. Repeat this over and over for about 8 hours.

Sounds like halibut fishing. Personally, I prefer the acrobatics of a good coho salmon!

Yeah, those coho, and sockeye's can fight like crazy. Especially if yer just using a medium light rod. 😉

7' medium-light action with 15# test line max. and a 10-20# coho on the other end. Nothing better. Always wanted to try bonefishing in the Florida Keys though. That sounds fun!

some of these are over 20# and yes they do fight use 4/0 and 6/0 penn reels with 60 and 80 lb line.These where cuaght about 60 miles off the coast of ms.We use whole poggies for bait and my son is 14 he is a Hoss.

I'd have to say those are considerably larger than the ones we were pulling up. Our largest were probably 10 pounds and probably averaged closer 5. I guess there's probably a lot more fight in a 20 pounder.

I was really good at pissing off the sockeye with my huge salmon flies so i caught alot of them... Got a little too good at it so mom and dad sent me commercial fishing. Maybe we should send a certain 14 yr old commercial fishing for red snapper? heh
