Does the humidity in the coolidor run higher based upon the plastic? I have started to construct the cedar, but before this, the humistat was working it's way up towards 80.

Good question. . . . . I took the humidier out of mine a week ago, and it's at 68 without any humidification.

Never needed cedar in mine. That's what the cigar boxes are for. Works famously.

How's your hygrometer?

Pablo,

Funny....yea I guess humistat does sound like "hemostat". What I meant was -hygrometer-.

It's funny no one else has had this problem as you'd think that the humidity against plastic would have no where to go; hence over humidifying your gars.......

Mine doesn't over humidify, but I do find that it reaches and maintains the proper level very easily! I hardly ever have to add distilled water. I think I have added to it once so far in about what? 2 months.

Most months I keep the drain plug pulled and the door cracked and it stays a constant 67%. In the winter it wants to run lower so I push the door shut.

Propylene Glycol - distilled water 50% solution, florist wet foam and a tupperware container.

I'm on my third cooler and never had problems. I always keep mine closed. I vave some cedar, the bottom is lined with cedar, I have a large homemade humidifier. I chrge it with pg/distilled every 9 months, the rest I use distilled water only. It hold 65-68% most of the year. I only add water about once a month or less!!

Hmm, I was having a similar problem with a tupperdor always around 75%+, with 50/50 (!). I did some searching on the boards, and someone mentioned to not totaly fill the humidifier (where it can't hold anymore liquid) because the extra moisture needs to go some place and if the humidifier is full, the moisture will stay in the container. Try drying out the humidifier, if it's a foam type, by leaving out of the coolidor for a day. Since following this advice it sits at 68% consistantly. Good luck.

IMHO #1 mistake with humidifiers is over saturating the foam. Unless you know your box is very dry and

needs excessive moisture to jack it up to proper RH make sure the medium will both absorb and excrete moisture. I have several coolerdors and leave the

drain plug open and also have several holes drilled

in the tops. A humi should not be air tight.. I regulate RH changes by covering and uncovering the ventilation holes especially in seasonal changes here

in Detroit.

ceadar does help to maintain a constant level.lots of cedar boxes works ok. I lined mine with 3/8 in cedar and it works great.I have a stack of nice kiln dried spanish cedar in my shop i would be willing to sell.1/4 and 3/8 5" to 6" by 4 ft long.if interested just drop me an e-mail @ [email protected]

I've found something that works quite well for me, both in my desktop and my tuperdor. I use a wet/wick type humidifier and film canisters of Climmax. I've found that the climmax evens out my humidity nicely, keeping both boxes consistently between 68-70%. It's nice because the climmax will absorb any extra moisture present after a refill, and displace the moisture if the humidifier starts to run low. Just my .02

Use Climmax.

Go for the 65% pound. Many of us here prefer 65%. You can add extra water to raise it from there if you want.
