Nice work everyone. Very Brotherly!

IMHO, Opus is not overrated. I smoked an aged Super Belicoso on my recent road-trip, and it was amazing! The quality of tobacco is evident all the way to the nub, and it had the perfect "Oooomph" behind it.

It didn't hurt to see my brother inhale an enormous puff of the Opus either. He looked at me crookedly, went in his apartment and passed out. He doesn't smoke anything, so that was pure Opus smoke goin into Virgin lungs. HILARIOUS!!!!

LMAOF at your bro.

The #2 is the perfexcion torp. It sells around $16 and is harder to find for me anyway.

I have seen it online as high as $33.

After meeting Carlos Fuente (I really love saying that here... LOL), and talking to him about the creation of the Opus X and whether he could have done better if he were not chased out of Cuba, I feel a special affinity for these cigars. I will always be willing to trade for Opus now.

As to the being over rated? Yes, and no. Yes, I feel they are priced higher than their worth, but I feel the same way about PAMs and PANs as well as ISOMs. No, I don't feel they are over rated when it comes to their quality. I could smoke Opus, PAM, PAN, and ISOMs until I die and not have any regrets.

$12 to $15 is what I pay for them at my retailer, who pretty well has them all the time (out of sight of the non-regular customers).

One of my (non-smoking) employees wanted to get me a nice cigar for my birthday. The day of my birthday he said "I tried to get you one of those Hopeless Sex cigars you like, but the guy never heard of them." He about died when I told him what it was supposed to be!

I certainly like the Opus X line and wish every BOTL/SOTL had a chance to smoke one. I try to keep one or two in the humidor at any given time, but only smoke one about once every six months or so. I live in Vermont and Fuente will not sell Opux X in this market. In my humble opinion, Ashton VSG is right up there, if not equal to the Opus, and given the fact that these are more available (in limited quantities) my dollar goes to the VSG. My two cents.

So if I am understanding this right, the DCM and the Ashton are pretty comparable, but less expensive?

Are there any other non-ISOM cigars that would match up?

Thanks!

yatang,

Where at in Oregon?

I am in Warrenton, by Astoria.

Astoria.. Is that near the coast? Where did Lewis and Clark meet the Ocean? I have memories of visiting there in the 70's, and of riding a rollercoaster called "The Wild Mouse" which was scary because it looked like it was going to break at any minute.

Astoria is where Lewis and Clark spent the winter they arrived on the coast. It is where they built a fort over the winter. Their trek actually ended in Seaside.

The Wild mouse was in Seaside, which is about 15 miles south of Astoria. Sadly, the Wild Mouse was torn down about 18-20 years ago. They tore down all of the amusement stuff to bring in one of those condominiums.

Also,

the actual town I live in is Warrenton, which is right next to Astoria. If you look at a map of Oregon, you will see at the very NW tip, a peninsula where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. That is Warrenton. 🙂

I actually spent a month over winter break out in South Bend, WA, which is about half an hour to forty five minutes or so from astoria. We were there a couple times, was looking all over for a decent cigar shop there too. Didn't have much luck 😞

Thread jack off-- I can get the belicoso xxx for about 10 bucks online, which I believe to be the best value, a nice robusto sized beli. The bigger sizes between 12-15 and the DC for just under 17.
