Sorry to hear about your getting stiffed on a trade. As another newbie that hasnt done a trade yet, I would expect to have to send my end first. I also would think it might be a good idea to give the trader my phone number in case there was some type of discrepancy, at least there would be another form of contact available.

I do a lot of dealing on Ebay, and the one thing I like is that you can always check the trading status of the people you are dealing with. If they have a history of abuse, than you wouldn't deal with them.

I guess my bottom line is this: I feel most people are honest, and I have seen that the people on this forum are all down to earth good people who would rather smoke 10 dog rockets than screw over another member.

Its a shame that your trust was taken advantage of, and I hope you continue to trade with the newbies, we aren't all bad. I know you will, everyone here has witnessed to what a stand up guy you are.

Thanks for the heads up, not that I have made any trades myself, but just the same thanks.

I rarely ever initiate a trade. If someone is offering a trade that I find attractive, I may respond.

I want a confirmed phone number, non-cell at a confirmed residence. Many scammers use false names and notify their mailman that a "friend" is staying with them ,to be certain that they get delivery. Others, where there is an apartment building, and multiple units will leave a false name for general package deliveries.

I've rarely had problems, but I have never let a "problem" go without taking some action when I've had a confirmed name and address.

While I can appreciate your sentiment and generosity, I do not share that viewpoint when a trade is involved. I draw a very distinct line between a gift and a trade. I have no problem sending cigars to BOTL without wanting anything in return. I have been on both ends of gifted cigars for decades.

But a trade is a contracted business negotiation, based on trust and honesty. When someone doesn't live up to their end of the agreement, and accepts their end of a trade, but doesn't send their end, it is nothing more than fraud. Anyone who uses the excuses, "things happen in life and I got delayed" or "I lost track of time, but will fulfill my end eventually" should have never engaged in the trade. They almost never complete the trade, nor send back what they received. Usually, they just disappear for awhile, then reappear with a different name.

For those who are generous enough to help out a newbie, where you send him an assortment of smokes and he orders something for you, in return, ...be sure he emails you a copy of the purchase order with confirmation code, and with your delivery address to you. When you have that confirmation, then send the newbie package.

On more than one cigar BBS, I'm starting to see more folks getting ripped off in trades.
