I love Lake Fork. Home of the monster bass and giant crappie. have not been there for several years. I can remember fishing with mud puppies there and seeing folks weighing in 12 pounders.

Yes they fought abnormally hard. Caught all mine on a buzz bait and they crashed the surface big time.

I am 23, and the only fishing I have ever done is in British Columbia....fishing for 3-5 pound Rainbow Trout.

Every time I watch bass fishing on TV....these things look like they fight 10x as hard.

How long ago did you say you fished Lake Fork?

the reason i ask is i have been fishing there for the last three years and the guide i had about kicked me off his boat for even mentioning live bait.

When i first went fishing there,we went out at 6 am. we fished with what was at the time the hot bait there. Do you remember those Castaic soft baits? We used the rainbow trout. Those things must have been a pound or two by themselves. we threw those things all day. The next morning i was so tired i not only didnt want to go,i wasnt so sure that i would beable to hang on if i did catch a big one. I told that guide that there was no way those bass would eat something so big. Twenty minutes later my brother-in-law caught a 14 pounder, and i'll be damned if it didnt just about swallow that whole trout. We have never went down there and caught any fish less then 4 pounds.

Oh! Mudd puppies or water dogs as we call them, are the best bait in the world for bass or catfish.

Beauty fish! I don't get up to Lake Fork but I've got some good power plant lakes within easy drive of Houston that grow some big ones. My wife loves to fish with the water dogs and the bass can't resist them.

Ahhhh, springtime and the lake... does it get any better, Tony? I say not.

Biggest bucketmouth I ever caught was just a hair over 8 pounds, but for Rhode Island and their super short growing season, that was huge!
