Does anyone have any info on what it takes to make your own humidifier. I have a small humidor but since finding this site I have went a little overboard and puchased around 200 cigars this month. I have a large pelican box from my scuba diving days about 2'X 3' and would hate to have to spend $40.00 on two large credos...This would be money I couldn't spend on cigars. Any suggestions would be helpful.

If you want to make them the cheapest way you can. I use a vcr cassette case (plastic kind). I then drill holes uniformly into the case. Go to your local florist and get a dry brick of florist oasis. Make sure there has not been any flower preservative added to it. Once you have the oasis, cut it to size for the case. Add distilled water and pg, and presto easy cheap credo. Although very generic, They do the trick in my coolerdors. I hope this helps

Well until he gets here, DON'T buy any more humidifiers. For just a few bucks and a few simple inexpensive storage items you can make enough to store hundreds of cigars. Buy a brick of the above mentioned WET oasis (Walmart even sells it for about a buck and is enough for about a thousand cigars). Buy some PG 50/50 solution (or mix your own, but most shops carry this). Then use your imagination for containers (depending on size of humidor/coolerdor and don't forget to drill lots of holes or leave the top off): electrical tape plastic containers, travel soap dishes, travel toothbrush containers (fit well in humidors), Skoal containers, small tupperware, old butter containers, anything. i was in the same boat. After 3 humidors i also now have 2 cooladors they work great. i just leave the cigar in their box and for 5-pack i put them in empty
boxes. i cannabalize a few boxes striping the cedar lining and placing that in the cooler. good luck

I bought a pint of propylene glycol at Walgreens yesterday for $10.05 tax and all. Ordered it Tuesday and picked it up Wednesday. Mixed with a pint of distilled water I will have one quart PG solution. (better than 2 ounce pre-prepaired bottles for $6.00 each)

Floral oasis works great in a tupperware container with 1/4" holes drilled in it(every 1" on center). I use a large one(approx. 5"x5"x10")in my converted armoire. I originally made it for a short term solution until I saved up the money for an electronic humidification device, but it has worked so well I've put off my search for one.

Bud, would you please email me at [email protected] and tell me how you converted the Armoire into a humidifier? How big is it? etc. Charlie

covers aren't necessary for the home made humidifier. put something under it to raise it high enough so he cigars won't roll on top. you can use household goop to glue another tupper under it or soap dish or whatever. cover the oaisis or remove it while the goop is drying about 24 hours. LET IT AIR OUT FOR SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE RETURNING IT TO THE HUMIDOR.

I have been taking a cigar tube and putting the florist foam in it. I then drill a bunch of holes in the top and side. I then velcro it on to the side of my humidor to add additional humidity during these dry winter months. Doesn't take up any more space than 1 cigar. I also just threw a chunk of foam in the cooler tray of my big igloo and that is working great. ORV

I'm a little slower than most, so excuse my question if it's elementary. Are you saying that you drill holes into the container? And then, how much/or how many do you need to try. I tinker in the shop some, and since becoming a rececnt cigar smoker, I'm interesetd in building my own cedar. Any help, please sir? Preacher John
