Beauty Rick, they have a very affectionate nature, dont't they? They also seem to have a very different personality from the other Cockatoos like the Goffin, Bare-Eyed, Umbrella, etc. I could get used to having one of those guys around very easily. It's a good thing they have a huge price tag or I'd have a few too many, LOL.

My wife hatesd birds, and we have always had cats ... but I've always wanted to get another.

All I've ever had was a parakeet named Perry when I was a child ... and I loved that bird. I taught it to talk, and it had quite a vocabulary of 'one liners' ...

i understand the dilemma. until we started with birds, i always had at least one siamese cat, sometimes several.

most people don't realize how smart the parakeets are. they talk better then any other bird with the possible exception of alex the grey and the strangest of all n'kisi, another grey. with thier little tiny brain, keets can learn as many as several hundred words and phrases, but since it doesn't talk loudly, most people do not realize what a vocabulary they can develop.

if you do a google search, you can hear tapes of n'kisi talking and communicating with it's owner. the bird doesn't just mimic, it carries on a conversation much like a there year old child. n'kisi even makes jokes.

i know of people that breed the rossies and the birds allow the breeders to handle their young. yes, they are different then all other cockatoos in their affection with whoever adopts and raises them.

About time I could read a post that's not getting personal and hateful! Maybe when I get back, I can look into getting another bird! I haven't had one since my first wife got rid of my cockatiel.
