There isn't any that I'm aware of,however, most stats are derived from smokers of cigarettes. Cigarette smokers inhale smoke from tobacco that is treated with chemicals. On average,Cigar smokers smoke a lesser amount of smoke from untreated tobacco. Anyway, this is what I tell myself,LOL. X

I don't think you'll be able to persuade your spouse on risk information

You may develop health problems in the future, or not

Unfortunately, there's been relatively little interest in accurately assessing the risks for cigar smoking [see NCI monograph], so it's mostly guess work

However, it's clear there isn't any "safe" tobacco product [& the nicotine replacement products may also pose risks] (There's also no zero risk in being a non-smoker, so epidemiologists speak in terms of relative risks, the fraction increase relative to the lowest known risk)

Your particular individual risk would be tricky to estimate, but if you've smoked cigarettes heavily for many years, switching to cigars wouldn't necessarily have reduced your risks from that exposure substantially

Here's two postings you might read:

cigars actually have only about 28% of the tar And50% of the nicotene as cigarettes. they are bigger, but less are smoked in a day. They make you happy and are relaxing and whatever else sounds good.

cigar smokers are probably more prone to oral or throat problems as opposed to lung......but I can't qualify that.....I just smoke'em

The way I look at it Churchill and Burns lived good long lives. I don't smoke nearly as much as they did so I'm not worried.

Mark Twain lived a long time and smoked all day long. Freud got mouth cancer. I think he smoked 20 cigars a day. Life doesn't come with any guarantees. Jim Fixx who wrote the book on running in the 70s died while jogging. Pritikin had great arteries but died young from bad genes. Dr. Atkins fell and died from a bump on the head, with bad arteries they say. There's no hope. Light up.

Dude,

Nobody gets out of life alive!! Would you rather be 95 years old laying in some hospital bed with tubes running in and out of every orifice, or die a little younger having enjoyed a few vices?

As for me...I'll be sparking up a nice Cohiba EL on the 4th tee this morning - hope I don't get hit in the mellon by someone's errant drive!

Pablo, not sure what cigar and/or cigarette the article was referring to......not even sure how accurate this information is, as I gleaned it from either Time or Newsweek magazine, and you know how sound bites are.....
