I know there were threads in the past about custom bands. Plus I know several other CBIDders will be getting hitched soon. I thought I'd share the results of my latest pet project.

Here is my attempt at custom cigar bands for my sister's wedding. I created the band in Paint Shop Pro and had several sheets printed out. They will be put on a box of Torano Signatures and a box of Sherpa Mystic. They came out better than I expected. Not too bad for a first attempt.

The plan is to use Fruit Pectin (the liquid kind) to put on the labels. I'll try it on a few bands this weekend and see how well it works.

Thats a good question. Here's how I figured it out. Depending on the ring gauge of your cigars, your band measurements may have to vary a little.

I took one of the Torano labels off of the cigar and measured it. I found the goal of the printed label needed to be 3in x 1in. Here's another catch. The graphic in the center had to be somewhere around 1-1/4in so that it looked right when wrapped around the cigar.

After I had those dimensions, I started in my graphics program. The actual file measured 804 x 271 pixels. If you were to print out that file, you'd find it was MUCH larger than 3x1. However, after you are done in the graphics program, you resize the large image and it comes to exactly 3x1.

You can get it at most grocery stores. I got mine at Wal-Mart. It is normally used in the canning process of jellys/jams, so you'll find it around that kind of stuff. It is cheap -- only a couple dollars for a good bit of it. You can get it dry (so you have to mix it) or you can get it in liquid form. I went with the liquid stuff.

Thread Topped for some inspiration to make my own. I am not sure if my 1942 Canon printer could poo out very good band sheets though. Hopefully it's all in the paper though.

If you dont have the printer, try shopping around at local print shops (Kinkos, etc). Usually, for a small fee, they'll print you off several sheets on the paper of your choosing.

I have one local Mom & Pop shop that does excellent printing jobs. One of the kids who works there is a college Graphics Design student. You give him an image on a floppy disk and he can put it on just about anything you want. Good work for a fair price.
