I never tried storing my cigars in baby powder. Does it change the flavor?

I've had a few that looked like that ...

... and it turned out to be mold.

I let them go a few months longer, just to see what would happen, and they got really fuzzy and developed 'spidery-web' like filaments with little round nobs on the tips, which I guess were the developing spores.

Plume/bloom isn't 'fuzzy' looking, and are very fine crystals ...

... also, if it developed when you had this cigar in your humidor for less than a few months, it's mold ... if this developed over a very long period of time, then it plume.

If that is indeed plume/bloom ... you have one of the best specimens I have ever seen!

Actually I am sure it is ploom. It was in my locals walkin for about 8 months and in my freezidor for about 2. He is maticulous about keeping his walkin at 70/70. It looked good when I got it; slight ploom, but the ploom wasn't as noticable. He had a few that were the same. This one seemed to have increased after I put it in my freezidor which is temperature regulated with a johnson controls unit to 70 degrees and uses climaxx beads for humidification. The freezidor has been rock solid at 68% humidity since I built it and has about 1000 other sticks. None have ever shown mold but several currently have some ploom.

Plume shows up as evenly distributed crystalline spots. Mold develops from a central spore and radiates out. Therefore you get the telltale thicker white dot and areas of lighter mold spores concentrically developing from the main spore. That is what you seem to have spread out along the length of the cigar.

Brush it off...there's more than likely some plume under the other stuff and it will smoke just fine.

Definitely PLOOM. Enjoy

what rayder1 said, I've too often seen a bit of fuzz on a smoke that's all ploomed up.

It could be molume. Or Plold.

how about this, smoke it and then tell us what it was...

I'm new at this but doesn't the long borders look as though they have hairy filaments coming off of them?? I didn't think that crystals, by their nature, had hairs. Maybe it's just the picture? By the way, if this was a moldy cigar, is it smokeable?? I haven't smoked one with mold yet, and I don't know if I would. Is it okay to wipe off mold and try it?? Or pitch it??
