Palio Cutters are indeed one (if not the finest) top op the line cutters on the market. It far surpasses ay cutter I've used so far, and I have just about every top-end cutter made.
The downside, is they are hard to find, not many places have them, and those that do seldom have them in in stock. The customer service is at the 'bottom of the barrel', not that I've ever had to call them ... but it's bad for those retailers who are trying to keep them in stock.
Here is is what one retailer has said about them that was posted on another forum:
"Yes, the Palio cutters REALLY are in stock. We don't know for how long though. We had 150 of them on order and were recently told that a new shipment was in from the manufacturer ... after them being unavailable for nearly 6 months.
BUT, we were only getting 25 cutters since the manufacturer apparently only made a fraction of what they were supposed to. All 25 cutters were already spoken for on a backorder, and that didn't even cover that backorder.
We then got another surprise box a couple of days ago with another 50 Palio cutters. As far as I can tell, we are almost though those as well from back orders, and have very few left at this point. Yes, we are still 75 short of what we had on order with the manufacturer.
This is also one of the most irritating manufacturers we have ever dealt with, but we do so, because our customers keep insisting on Palio cutters. When we run out, we run out, and we try not to take any back orders on Palio cutters anymore.
The reason for that is when we run out, we have no clue when or even if we will ever receive another shipment. The manufacturing of this product, for me, fits into the 'joke' category. The manufacturer never repsonds with anything other than 'soon'. They produce these if they feel like it. And in the 4 years of carrying this product, have never even come close to getting anything remotely like a sporadic supply. We have gone well over 9 months at one point in waiting for the next shipment of these and have waited 6 months more than once.
So, get them while they are here, because we honestly will not know if we will ever get more until they magically appear on our doorstep."
I'm not sure why this is ... because the cutter is an incredibly well-made 'surgical' instrument; made with the same technology used in surgical cutting instruments.
BTW ... these are made by Amyx & Christy Inc. Here is a little bit about them from their website:
Amyx & Christy is a Synergistic Medical Technologies affiliate, manufacturers of surgical instruments and related medical devices. As avid enthusiasts of premium hand rolled cigars, the principals of Amyx & Christy were disappointed with the level of performance rendered by other cigar cutters. They noticed that even the top cutters on the market were cumbersome to hold and manipulate while delivering jagged cuts that were not only less than satisfactory, but damaging to the tobacco and wrapper as well.
By applying the same developmental tactics and instrumentation used in the production of surgical devices to the void in the cigar accessories industry, Palio was born. As Palio delivers the most precise and refined cut available in the industry, its ergonomic and intuitive design make it the safest and most durable cigar preparation available anywhere.
In a test conducted in medical labs by Synergistic Medical Technologies using force-guage analysis, Palio maintained its sharpness over Zino by a dramatic margin.
Inspired by and based upon the precision and calibration of today's superior medical devices, Palio has endured the rigors of intense product development. From concept and design to product testing and refinement, Palio has been mechanically engineered to deliver only the most precise cut available in the cigar accessory market today. As fellow cigar aficianados, we appreciate your passion for premium hand rolled cigars. And since you want your cigar experiences to be just right, we thought you should have the right instrument in your hand to ensure just that.
