I bought a cigcaddy 3400 about a year ago, I never tested it in the water until I went kayaking two days ago. I fell from the kayak with all my gear including the caddy, it went underwater for a few seconds then I found it about 100 yards down river,it was close so I didn't worry about my cigars. When I finished the trip close to 2 hours after I decided to light up and for my surprise all the cigars were soaking wet, I had to trash them 1 perdomo fresh roll, 1 padron 3000, 1 CAO brazila gol and a Gurkha what a waste!. At the end were my friends were waiting the BBQ and beers I didn't have anything to smoke.

Has something like this happened to any of you guys?

Maybe my caddy was defective but I'm sure I won't buy another one. My old ammobox works better

It may have something to do with the rapids and force of the water. I use mine in my pool all the time and literally let it float around in the pool. No problems.

That's really too bad. A happy story will never involve a wasted Gurkha. Our retail store manager, Matt, dropped his in the ocean off a boat once. Inside were a few cigars and his cell phone. Fortunately, the watertight seal held, and all was ok.

I'd write em and LTK what happened. Also,I never take my cigars over water unless I'm in a boat. X

is it one that has the "release" valve by the handle? I have dropped mine in lake a few times and was perfectly dry. UNLESS the valve is opened for venting and you forget it (have done this too) then it runs freely into the box.

Grizzly,

Could be that you left the purge screw open, or that the o-ring was damaged or had a tiny obstruction in it. I'd check for those things before tossing out the humi.

You also should do a test on it...

Empty it of any cigars, close it, and hold in underwater (ex: bathtub).

If you see any bubbles, take a look at where they are coming from. Could be an obstruction on the O ring, or the Purge valve is open. If all looks good, and water is still getting in, email customer service and they should fix the problem.

My vote is the valve, most likely open.

I just got back from a trip. The damn thing was vacuum sealed shut. I had to open the valve to allow air in so I could open it.

yea i hear lots of travel stories on planes that pressurize and clamp seal these things unless you use the release valve or drill a hole in the ones that dont have one.

You all keep talking about a valve. I have a 3400 and there is no release valve.

Skatty,

You're right, the 3400 is the 5 smoke capacity version. Same one I have. I have to pry it open with a butterknife after a flight.

Grizzly,

Like Penguin said, check for an obstructin on the o-ring. While your at it, check to make sure that the o-ring isn't cracked or damaged.

tHIS CADDY DON'T HAVE ANY VALVES. cHECK THE O RING AND IT LOOKS FINE MY QUESTION NOW IS, DO THEY HAVE ONLY THE ONE O RING THAT IS PLACED ON THE BUTTON PART OR THEY COME WITH ANOTHER O RING ON THE TOP PART? BECAUSE LOOKING CLOSE TO THE CADDY IT SEEMS THAT IS MISSING THE TOP O RING.

Mine doesn't have a second O-ring on the top.

Skatty is correct, no 2nd o-ring. Check to see that there is a fine indentation all the along the o-rong from where the lid meets the o-ring. If there is a spot missing in the indentation, that is where your leak is.

And definitely contact the manufacturer at

www.otterbox.com

They should be willing to work with you and hopefully replace your defective humi.

Are these similar to the Pelican cases?

I have a small pelican case for my digital camera, it has a "bleeder valve" to relieve/prevent pressure.
