Was looking at a particular item currently on the block that you can currently get for $31.00. But, check out the shipping fine print! Holy Freaking Cow!!!

"Shipping charges are $180.00 for the first unit. (Alaska, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, APOs/FPOs may be higher).

* This item requires special shipping considerations. Shipping Savings Program does not apply."

Thank God I was paying attention prior to bidding!

yep, weighs 170 lbs! 40" high! And if ou're lucky enough to live on this end of the county, you still cant go pick it up, because they don't charge PA sales tax, and they aren't set up for it, so if you picked it up, you would have to pay a tax they aren't prepared to collect, except at CI's store, and there you pay full retail for the item, (a nice low retail, but well over the $41.00 currently going for!)

I realize your getting a good deal on price....but 180 dollars for shipping? Thats kinda unfair dont ya think?

Clive, I am still trying to figure out how that thing can weigh 170lbs! I have cut wood most of my life and as you know I am in the forestry tool industry, that must be one heck of a chunk of wood. The wooden cigar indians they have on bid are about 60+obs. which sounds very reasonable. I thought this piece would have made a really nice addition to my wifes business but not for that total cost.

It has to be an error on that weight. It comes out to 4.25lbs per inch of height. That would make 18" of the statue weigh 76.5lbs. Anyone ever had an 76.5lb. round of firewood? I'm not sure if 18" of concrete 12" in diameter would weigh 76lbs!

I can see cbid losing money on this stuff because of the high shipping cost. they have some humidors that cost between 150 and 180 dollars to shipp also. I wouldnt want to pay 200 dollars for a product and then almost the same amount in shipping. SCREW THAT MESS!

jeezy peezy!

I concur 100%. If I was to bid on one of these humidors they have, I would factor in the shipping price to the total I was willing to spend.

C-bid is a good deal most of the time, but I agree that the $150-$180 shipping charges on some of their items is a straight rip-off. Period.

Hell, for he shipping price, I'd drive to PA to pick it up in person. And I live in Cali!

Besides, it'd be a great excuse to stop by the CI store again. That shop blew my mind!

If you are talking about the Faithful Servant Dog Wooden Statue ... it is actually 42 Inches (3½ ft.) and weights 150 lbs.

According to UPS, shipping to CA ground would be only $77 ... but they have a limit of 150 lbs.

If they are calling it 170 (with packing), then it would have to ship by another carrier which could easily make the shipping $180 ... or they are factoring in the 'handling' charge.

Also, considering the fact the CI sells this item for $375, and the bid is only up to $41 )and it ends today, 9/12) ...

... if the current bidder wins it, the total price will be $221, which is still $154 under CI's retail price, even if you picked it up yourself (at retail price) ...

... and still a heck of a good deal, IMHO.

These things are solid wood, not resin, and they're very heavy. They have to be palletized and shipped via LTL. The 6-foot indians weigh over 250 lbs, and even the 42" dog statue and 50" punch clowns and fighting irishman are over 150 lbs. Even if we could ship via UPS (which we can't), the rate increases dramatically based on a "dimweight" formula or dimensional weight. There is no handling built in, it's very close to cost when shipped via LTL. To some locations our flat rate is 20 bucks above actual billed cost, and to some locations it's below actual billed cost. There is a residential surcharge as well for LTL deliveries. Believe me - when you see these things you will know what I mean! These are some of the best deals going at the bid prices I've been seeing.

We may be having a warehouse sale on statues in the coming weeks for those that live within a certain radius we'll send out a notice.

BTW the best deal shipping-wise is on the 40" indians. They're solid wood but not as dense and we can ship those via UPS.

Just remember guys, if one of these things shows up on my truck some morning, I am only authorized to get it to your door. Not inside your house!!! Of course I don't have to worry about that for at least a couple of more weeks as I haven't been cleared to return to work yet. Would you believe a broken wrist could keep you out for over 4 friggin' months, 3 months in the cast and at least 6 weeks rehab...and counting.

Actually, if it showed up on my truck it could very well have a fatal "accident" or get "lost". Heh, heh, heh! Sp order those statues, especially that little fightin' Irishman! 😉

Keith, if you say, "and even the 42" dog statue and 50" punch clowns and fighting irishman are over 150 lbs." ... you might want to have them change the description on the CI website.

CB and CI have conflicting weights ... at least, on the 'dog statue' and 'fighting irishman' ... which could lead to some confusion.
