A desperate smoker seeks some help/guidance. My humidor holds 100 cigars. It's full, and my obsessive/compulsive behavior got the better of me recently. I now have two boxes of cigars and no where to put them (and can't get them all smoked in the next few weeks). How long will they stay good in just the unopened boxes, and does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can store/save them without having to buy another humidor? A dark closet/drawer, spare refrigerator, coleman cooler? HELP!!! All input/advice is greatly appreciated.

The nice thing about the people on this board is that they are always willing to help. If you mail your cigars to the people who post regularly, I am sure we can help you smoke them. Seriously, Check the other posts on this board. Some creative ideas.

justforfun, a 48 up to 150 quart cooler is the best choice (do a search for coolador or any spelling variation). If you are concerned, a good temporary solution is to place them in a trash bag and tie shut, they will be fine for weeks.

It's tempting to look upon them as too many tomatoes from a summer garden and stack them up in the fridge...a no-no. I have a friend (Cuban) who stores his in tupperware in the veggie crisper with good results... but then again, he's Cuban.

A Large Freezer Zip Lock Bag Will Work Fine.I Suggest How Ever If You Are Going To Hang Around Here At Least A 48 Qt Coolerdor Is A Must.

Dont store tomatoes in the fridge, either. Makes 'em grainy.

...for late season tomatoes, the best keepin' place is wrapped in newspaper at the bottom of the closet. Don't think that would work either for cigars.

When you end up with a coleman cooler as your humidor, don't waste the extra $$ at the cigar shops buying the premixed bottles of humidifying solution. First go to the florist and buy a block of that green foam they use to hold the flowers in place in the baskets or whatever (about $2.00) - Second, go to your local drugstore and buy a quart of Propylene Glycol ($6.00-$8.00 at most) - Third, go buy a gallon jug of distilled water from your local grocery store. Mix the PG & distilled water in equal parts (50/50), place the green block in a an open plastic tupperware container that your wife won't notice missing, cut/drill holes all over the lid, pour your 50/50 humidifying solution over the green brick until fully saturated (best if done in the container), remove excess (unabsorbed liquid), place lid on tupperware and place it in your cooler with your cigars. Splurge that $15.00 for a digital hygrometer and add water as needed to keep the humidity at 70%.

If you have extra tomatoes, put them in the blender, add a teaspoon of salt, plenty of garlic, and freeze. Second, stop growing Big Boy, they suck!!!!!!!!

There is no such thing like to many cigars,because this means not enough cooladors pasta!

justforfun : [email protected] has it on point. slight differene, i don't cover the humidifier. and if you buy a hygrometer at any price, digital at radio shack about $25.00, you still need to calibrate it. quality control allows + or - 5%. if you need info re calibrating stop on by, or email.

Don't worry about your unopened boxes. They should be OK for months. This is based on my experience of rehumidifying dried out cigars. It's about 3-6 months depending on whether the box and/or the cigars are in cellophane. But no guarantees here. I've never made a careful study. And summer is coming soon which is almost good enough for humidification by itself. Some wholesalers don't store their cigars in humidors yet they get by. Also, don't try the refridgerator. Those modern descriptions like "chocolate and cinnamon with undertones of allspice..." might take on unwanted significance.
