Coolerdor --

1 48qt or larger cooler -- $15.00 at Walmart

1 jar of Humi-Care from CI or CB ... $10

Boxes of cigars -- cost up to you 😉

If you are storing boxes of cigars there is NO need for any cedar in the cooler, contrary to what many recommend. The wood on the boxes absorbs humidity and is just as good as lined walls. If you are storing only singles then extra wood helps, but is not needed with Humi-Care jar. Humi-Care is awesome stuff, it has PG in it already, just fill with distilled water, stick one in your cooler and forget about it. Open coolerdor monthy to exchange air and check the Humi-Care. I refill my jars about once every two months.

I store longterm, box storage and aging, in coolerdors. Most of my singles are in a coolerdor. but the ones I smoke daily are rotated from the coolers to my 150 count desktop, as needed. I smoke out of the desktop.

But whatever you want to do.

Pretty much what Dave (A.K.A. Homebrew) said.

At least one desktop humi is a must.

Coolidors are better as their climate remains more constant if you don't have good control of the temp. You can also use them upright with shelves, which is nice, but they're more expensive and time consuming to make. I have 4 desktops, 2 travel humis, a cooler and a tupper.

oops $15.76

now add $1-2 for a gallon of Distilled water from the grocery dept (if you're at a super Wally-World) and some PG from wherever you find it, and you've saved alot of money to spend on here! For cigars!

CW,

Where you at that the distilled water is so expensive. I know it's no big deal but last time I bought a gallon at Wally World it was $0.59.

Humidor of coarse, so what if i can't afford all of them at once. It takes time to build a good collection.

PG: Propylene glycol is a derivative of natural gas. It is commonly used in a variety of consumer products and food products, including deodorants, pharmaceuticals, moisturizing lotions, and fat-free ice cream and sour cream products. Ooops, sorry, the wacky chemist in me came out.

In relation to cigars, it is mixed with distilled water (typically 50/50) to create a solution to maintain the humidity level within your humi. A 50/50 mixture maintains 70% relative humidity with it’s surroundings. If the ambient air is over 70% the solution will suck up water from the air, if lower than 70%, the solution will give up water to the air. The PG acts as the water exchange “gatekeeper” if you will.

Also, when filling the credo it shouldn’t be sopping wet. It’ll need some room within the foam to store any extra humidity that it takes out of the air.

O.K. guys, you need to start doin' some searches.

DsSaP,

Just for clarification, CI is a sister co. to CB and it is perfectly O.K. to post their link. Any other cigar related retail site is not.

one last point, if you make your own PG solution, the mix should ideally be 50/50 BY WEIGHT!

Again CW has a point. In fact, you can achieve you personal preference for RH if you alter the percentages, by weight, of course. They're actually pretty close.

Do a search. There is a table of blends on here somewhere. I prefer 65% so if I wasn't using Climmax media, I would want to up my PG/H2O mixture. If you don't saturate your foam, you can always add a little of one or the other too.

"They're actually pretty close."

That looks like it sounds confusing.

I believe PG is a hair lighter (less dense) than H20 (or maybe the other way 'round), so if you are measuring by volume, you would want to alter it a bit to compensate.
