Since the current choice of people who can win the election is limited to two at the moment I won't be voting for George.

As I was single most of my time in the service I really thought I was overpaid for my time as an officer. When I first enlisted I made $56 every two weeks take home. Later in 1971 Nixon made a big change in the pay scale when the all volunteer force was proposed and I went up to $78. As a Staff Sergeant in 1977 I think I was up to $314. For a single guy living on post this was basicly party money. When I converted to the Officer Corps as an O-1E over 8 the pay wasn't terribly different but the bennies went way up.

The service is the only job you'll ever have were you get paid more to get married (BAQ, BAS, Seps etc etc), something I didn't agree with then even when I was drawing it. I still disagree with it now. When I retired Pay and benefits were almost $6K a month which is about what "Middle Management" makes in a decent size company. I have no complaints about the pay. Overall I think enlisted should get more even at the expense of limiting officer pay increases.
