I'm sure that it's obvious I'm a newbi by my repeated posts. This is the most informative and entertaining message board I've ever seen.

Ok...is it just me, or is there a schizophrenic nature to cigar smoking? It never fails. I break out a real smoke at a party or an event, and, without exception, somebody who NEVER lights up demands, "HEY...Got one for me?". As if it's required etiquette to bring a smoke for everyone if you light one up. I suppose I shouldn't, but I feel resentful towards people who do this, because they haven't the least appreciation of what a real smoke is.

On the other hand, I'm the first one to offer a smoke to someone who I discover has a clue that's there's something different about good sticks and want to learn more.

Is it just my cranky nature, or has this happened to others?

I feel a certain obligation to convert as many people as possible into cigar smokers.

We are too small of a minority, we need more in our camp.

I must admit a certain amount of frustration when I give a nice cigar to someone who doesn't really appreciate it. I gifted a couple cigars to a prospective customer several weeks ago & he carried them in his briefcase for a few weeks before smoking them.

I have also gifted nice smokes to friends who habitually smoke dog rockets & they don't seem to note the difference. I guess that's why they smoke dog rockets. I would suggest carrying a few with you & hand out the good ones to the folks who just might like em & the pooch rockets to the ones who won't.

whenever i take my take along humi anywhere, i make sure there's at least 2 joya del jeffe's in it. it is a pretty well constructed cigar with a mild to med charechter, just for such occasions, and you get em' for a song.

that way it don't cost hardly nuthin', and you're handing out a little better quality smoke.

My neighbors bug me all the time for cigars. They usually smoke junk paper cigars so I keep a dozen or so all-tobacco drugstore smokes on hand for them. Occasionally I'll let a decent one slip their way, but I usually get complaints about them being too strong. Same with wine.......they will drink MD20/20 all day but grimace at the taste of a nice merlot. God bless 'em.

I'm expected to bring cigars to poker nights and other occasions too. I usually just bring some value smokes that I know are good, but don't cost more than a couple a' bucks (box price, thanks to CBid). I, of course have to smoke them too, but I enjoy them on occasion. Most if not all of the folks are very impressed.

An added benefit is to show a perspective newbie that you can smoke good cigars without breaking the bank. Of course that fades once they stumble upon CBid.

My biggest complaint is to give a guy a cigar and he goes on and on about how great it is, and then in about 15 minutes or less, puts it out! That is what the lesser sticks are for, give goods one to the guys and gals you know and that you know will appreciate them!

I shouldn't kvetch, cause I've been fortunate enough to have turned three guys on to good smokes. While I don't have a ton of experience, they still take my suggestions and appreciate when I steer them towards something that I've learned they might like. Having them come back and tell me how much they liked something I gave them makes all the half-smoked gars almost worth it

I have always been generous with my cigars and enjoy passing a few out wherever I go. As was pointed out earlier in the thread I also try to convert as many to our camp as possible.

Generousity with cigars, like life, can also pay rewards in other ways.

I gifted a business aquaintance who I know enjoys Avo cigars a couple of Park Avenue Serie 44 toros. The favor was returned today with a nice shiny new KC Chiefs jacket. I didn't expect the jacket but certainly appreciated it. (now if they could just win a game... it would really make Charlie and me happy!)
