Ry Cooder is sort of an enigma.

In 'Crossroads", he was credited with a lot of the music, but the album he made as a soundtrack didn't have a lot of the better music from the film on it.......that stuff was Steve Vai and others.

He organized "Buena Vista Social Club", but I don't know if he even played a note on the album.

I'll have to look and see if he is credited with playing on THIS album or not.

He probably IS, but as usual I bet his music is overshadowed by the band.

He seems to be the "idea man".

True. Ry is kind of in a class of his own.

If you want to see and hear some great footage of Ry and his band, search on youtube for "ry cooder catalyst" this will bring up a show from 1987 that was professionally filmed, but only released overseas.

I don't think Ry was ever part of the Blues Brothers band.

Aren't the Chieftains a Keltic band???

That would make for an interesting cd.

^The Chieftains are "THE" Irish folk music band.

There are a lot of similarities in ethnic folk music around the world; and they pull this off wonderfully.

BTW........Ry Cooder PROBABLY played the slide guitar part on Mick Jagger's "Memo From Turner"......from the "Performance" soundtrack.

if you haven't heard, this song is possibly the COOLEST "Stones" song there is........and it is most certainly the coolest slide riff.
