It is a nice theory but it was discussed pre-hunt. This was taken on a working dairy in an area with a large deer population with a 7 week rifle season to cull the herd. Large herds of deer can do tremendous crop damage so the rule is "If you have a shot on an adult deer within bag limits, take the shot. Wait for a trophy buck and you won't be invited back."

Well farm hunting changes everything from my first statement. I have helped thin out a farm herd in the past to keep the crops from destruction.

I thought the French were afraid of guns and afraid of conflict........you sure some American didn't shoot this for you????????????????

The traditional French method is to call for a US airstrike. Plan B is to throw tgghe rifle from the treestand and follow the misfire. Works best with a Remington 700.

Poor little guy. You should have passed on that one and let him mature a bit. Not discounting a nice kill, thats just my personal preference.

Shoot ..., in NC I used to kill 6 either sex deer a season. If that sucker had fur, it died.

Even shot one once with faint spots. Be suprised if it field dressed at 60lbs. The best venison I ever ate.

The "trophy deer" I shot was an 8pt that field dressed at 135lbs. I won the local "biggest buck" contest. Not all deer in all regions get big.

Nice kill HD..

The only way I wouldn't have taken that shot would have been if a better target walked by....like Kesha.

Perfect kill for a first buck. You do not want to go out and shoot a 160 class buck on your first outing..............you'll be disappointed the rest of your life.Work your way up the ladder....hold out for a nice fat 6 pointer next time.AAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDD whatever you do,don't take up waterfowling. Before too long you'll have thousands of dollars worth of decoys, waders, field blinds,shotguns,boats........................

Great First Buck!

Did you drag it out dressed or a full weight drag?

Are you visiting up north or is this in Fla.?

(I didn't read the whole thread)

Central North Carolina on a dairy farm of somewhere around maybe 2000 acres farmed and even more wooded.

I had to full drag him to the nearest farm road., maybe 600 yds across a harvested corn field. Then we trucked him over to the other side of the farm where a permanent cleaning station is built in a wooded area.
