IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD OF THIS FILM, YOU NEED TO WATCH IT.

"Afghanistan” is a word on the news, debated in terms of our foreign policy. Almost an abstraction. Nobody thinks about foreign policy in “Restrepo,” a documentary shot during the 15 months an American company fought there under almost daily fire. They were in the Korangal Valley, described on CNN as “the most dangerous place in the world.”

It is also one of the most desolate, even in the arid land of Afghanistan. Sparse vegetation clings to the rocky, jagged terrain. There is dust everywhere. It is too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter, and in the movie, at least, the troops only actually ever see one Taliban fighter — and the man who saw him thought it was the last sight he would ever see.

I keep hearing great things about this movie, I really need to buckle down and find some time to watch this one...

It's on one of the cable channels. History or discovery. Cowards like ricky should not watch these types of programs. He would never understand the brotherhood.

I saw it TWICE and thought it was EXCELLENT.

It should be shown in every school during a Wednesday afternoon assembly.

Give the kids Thursday to process it and discuss it for the whole history/cultures class on Friday.

It just reminded of WWI trench warefare on a mountainside w/ NO "NO-MANS LAND". Like you said, they never see who shooting at them as opposed to waves of storming troops as in WWI.

I don't think today's kids get the total "on guard" mental state that these troops are going through 24/7/365......always on guard and watching each others backs. IT IS VERY INTENSE.
You never know if someones going to pop you if you lift your head above the sand bags.

They were all heros in my book.

Finally got around to watching this movie today. Great movie, brings back alot of memories both good and bad from my recent deployment to the Stan. Sadly only the dead have seen the end of war...

I wish I could take credit for it... The quote is attributed to the ancient Greek Philosopher Plato. I first came across this quote in the book/movie "Black Hawk Down". Great movie if you have not already seen it. Like you the quote has resonated and stuck with me for several years. I think it hits a little close to home for me and I found it to be more true than not...
