This isn't a good reflection of who people really are. In fact, just the way some of the questions are worded makes you choose a side you don't want to be in. For instance, the question "It should be against the law to use hateful language toward another racial group." If you disagree, it makes it seem you support racism and it's okay to be hateful. If you agree, you support creating laws and legislation towards punishment. But, it forgets that we already had laws against beating people. We already had laws against dragging people behind trucks. We already had laws against hanging people in your yard. We DON'T need hate crime laws - we just need to enforce the laws we already have on the books that support EVERYONES rights already!
The question "Tighter regulation would have prevented the collapse of the lending industry." This is an unfair question as well. If you answer yes, you agree with bigger government and tighter control by that government. If you say disagree, you basically state that nothing could have been done and the collapse of the lending industry was inevitable.......
The question "Toppling enemy regimes to spread democracy will make the world a safer place." is an unfair question and your answer either way (or in the middle) puts you in a category you don't want to be in. There is much room for grey areas in a question worded this way.
"A person's morality is of the most personal nature; therefore government should have no involvement in moral questions or promote moral behaviors." Hmmmm.....how can one honestly answer this question. You can disagree because that seems like the right thing to do. But, as soon as you enact legislation that states you can't rape a cow, the government starts regulating...... While I agree with peoples rights, I don't think they should be allowed to rape anyone. There is no place on their scale for a true response to this question.
"When corporate interests become too powerful, the state should take action to ensure the public interest is served." This is a question that clearly could swing to both ends of the scale. There isn't any grey area in this but you don't have a choice on the scale other than stay neutral and neutral isn't where I want to be. Terrible question.....
I could go on and on. Simply put, this sort of survey is another form of manipulation to put you in a box or category that you don't want to be in and may have no bearing on your true feelings. What's ironic, this survey is to show you where you align, yet the questions automatically align in a place where you really don't want to be........manipulation to the MAX.......
