Half a check for ALL Military, deployed or not. Don't even know if we'll get a paycheck at all on the 1st. We will get paid, eventually. But what do we do until then? The families of deployed Service Members (SM's) can not be evicted for non-payment of rent, but how will they pay for other essential items?

I just instructed the soldiers under me to call their banks and lenders and cancel any automatic withdrawls. I advise you to do the same. You don't want the little pay you get to be eaten up in payments. Most lenders understand and will hold off until this gets fixed but soldiers need to have food in their cupboards.

Navy Federal Credit Union said it would cover the April 15 payroll for active-duty military members who have direct deposit at the credit union, in the event of a possible government shutdown.

By covering the mid-month pay, active-duty members will not see a difference in their direct deposit amount, Cutler Dawson, president and CEO of the credit union, said in a news release.

Other steps Navy FCU is taking include expedited approvals for lines of credit, overdraft programs and credit card limits, the release said.

As of midday Friday, Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill had yet to reach agreement on a budget measure and avoid a federal government shutdown.

Navy Federal Credit Union, based in Vienna, Va., is the world’s largest credit union with $4 billion in assets, serving all Department of Defense military and civilian personnel and their families. It has eight branches in Northeast Florida with 155,000 area members and $924.8 million in area deposits.

DrMaddVibe I think most banks and credit unions are doing something very similiar. Some are doing this automatically and some you will have to request the assistance.

Well, look at it this way, Democrats are fighting hard to make sure that the Endowment for the Arts, funding for NPR, welfate checks, and free federally-paid abortions continue while you guys are out there risking your lives.

And no, I'm not making light of your predicament. It is galling for me to see that people who do what the Constitution actually mandates are purposely being targeted by politicos as a means who want to keep their paid voter-base happy.

Feeling the hit here too, as active duty. I don't have many thoughtful constructive things to add to this conversation, but I sure could use a place to vent. This blows, and I would have thought that with 4 deployments under my belt in the last 4 years my family and I had sacrificed enough for one lifetime. Turns out they need my already meager salary too. Going back to Monday if this doesn't get worked out is gonna be tough.

EDIT: Sounds now like some kind of stop-gap agreement has been reached to extend the deadline for a short time. Still tracking...not out of the woods yet folks.

Let me get on my soapbox real quick--please call your congressmen and senators. I did today for the first time in my life. They need to know that this stuff matters to real people.

Latest news from the Hill reports that our pay will not be impacted. We will receive our full pay on the 15th. This is a short term fix, so who knows what will happen on the 1st.

same as what just happened, but on a larger scale. There will be some accord finally reached, but it is going to be very a bumpy ride to the end.

I know this affects people personally in some of the worst ways possible, but what surprises me is those who are surprised by the fact that negotiations like this always do and will go down to the very last minute. Happens everyday. Human nature, I guess.
