Whenever we get a good amount of live crabs, I clean them before cooking. While they are alive I remove the shell, the remaining eyes and mouth section. Then with a toothbrush under a running faucet, I remove all the internal organs. Then we either steam them in old bay or cook them in spaghetti sauce. The crab sauce is SO GOOD. Whenever people try it for the first time it’s always the same… they say I ruined the crabs because I got rid of all the “good stuff.” Then they eat them and say I’ve spoiled them because they’ll never eat it unless they are cleaned. I think I like them better cleaned because the old bay can get to the crab meat instead of to the outer shell.
