I say we eliminate AM radio too. It serves no purpose.

Ummmm...that's great and all but it's not a "+" in the debt column.

yes it is. we support the infrastructure and monitor its use. And its cheap bandwidth that can be used for other things like communicating with the aliens.

Brew,
Ok, so we're not talking about income tax. Fair enough.

So, do the truly wealthy pay their fair share?
At the risk of soundling like John Kerry: Yes.
And No.

Some absolutely do. In terms of creating jobs and charitible contributions, I'd even venture to say that MOST pay more than their fair share even if it's indirectly so.

Some, however, are misers. But even they pay a usage tax whenever they buy a yacht, or pay real estate taxes on their 14th home. Or pay the feds on the capital gains when lots of their numbers are transferred to somebody elses numbers.

You just don't see it.
And I'm sure there are exceptions.

But don't ever fall into the trap of thinking that the Rich are getting a free ride.

As for the Bush tax cuts?
You shouldn't fixate on such an inconsequential tidbit.
You want to bash Bush, then look no further than the war. It begins and ends there.

And if we weren't so afraid of giving the apearance of engaing in protectionism, then we'd be more focussed on giving our manufacturing base a boost during these wars.
Sure, we don't care where our TV's are made at walmart. But why not demand 100% American components in our weapons and our armoured vehicles and our military radars, etc etc etc?
Why give a bazillion dollar contract to France's Air Bus rather than our own Boeing?

You get the idea.

In the meantime, don't look at the wealthy with such disdain. If they did it to us worker bees, you'd call them pompous or even worse. Yet you're doing it to them without even knowing the facts.

There is a widening income gap between the ultra-rich and the rest of us. “. . .and the rich get richer and the poor get poorer . . .”. The USA is heading where so many second and third world countries are – populated by a few of the ultra-rich, seas of the abjectly poor, and virtually no middle class, save for what the rich need.

Does the ruling/capitalist class have an interest in a government of, for, and by the people? I don’t see why they would. They own the important land, they lobby for any laws they want. If you were a feudal king, would you give your subject an equal vote? Or would you have them pray to you as their leader appointed by God?

Someone here posted a dissertation a while back about how we owe the rich a great dept, and should be building them statues – seems like the dark ages to me.

No – not that my life has been free of strife. I just don’t like forgetting what history teaches us. And while it is bad enough that lies about our society commonly given to us on the TV, it is even worse when people buy in to them and defend them.

But so it goes – checkers sell more than chess . . . .

Racial bigotry may still exist in America 2011, but I think we've done a good job of keeping a negative stigma on those who showcase it either directly or otherwise.

Why, then, have we so strongly embraced this class hatred?
From the president on down, we talk about the wealthy as if they're an ogre.
We demand that they pay MORE, and yet we're somehow unable to predict how much will be "enough".

And we do this without fear of being called a "hater". Because the rich are not a protected class. They do not represent a high enough percentage to bring about change on election day, except through contributions which are being scrutinzed with far greater effort than any welfare program would ever receive.

It's shameful.
But we're apparently shameless.

You know.
Because they're rich and all.
Those evil fuggers.

Brewha,
When I invest in a company, I like that company to maximize their profits.
I'd hate it if they looked at their previous quarter and said "hey, we made quite enough. let's back off and let the competition have at it for a while"

Yet, that is precisely what you're asking.
Excpet you're asking the government to do it FOR the company/person/entity since those evil wealthy fuggers can't be trusted on their own.

Tax the rich.
Feed the poor.
Till there are
No rich no more.

The rich are getting richer, and it may not be "fair".
But who ever said that life was fair?

At some point, crying about the wealthy is nothing more than jealous whining.
And that point occured quite a while ago...

If the wealthy are indeed the enemy, we still need to define who they are and how to extract a trillion USD per year from them without an economic impact to the broader economy and the jobs of the peasant class.

I think it is funny that we are worried about entering the dark ages yet see the solution as taking pitchforks and torches to the rich!
