Well DUH!

If anyone made sound fiscal policy decisions we wouldn't have $15 trillion in debt!

And that's the definition of a progressive income tax.

Yes, it punishes success and produces tax revenue that the government can use for cheese, ground beef, and Hamburger Helper to keep the less successful from rioting over their lack of success.

I've been the one saying "fair" is a load of crap. It has no practical definition in the conversation.

In that case you probably should just admit that you are just playing a political game instead of discussing the topic seriously. With your spare time then you can actually go join the OWS protests.

How so? You have admitted to purposely using skewed statistics to make a political point rather than discussing sound fiscal policy. Where have I not been serious? Just disagreeing with me is not an answer.

Hey Fuzzy,
My SIL, daughter and 8 grandkids live in NC. He's a heating/AC tec and makes $25k a year. He has $0 withheld from his pay in Federal and State income taxes. He pays about $2k in FICA, $1k in property taxes and about another $1k in State Sales Tax. Last year, due entirely to Child Care Credits, Additional Child Care Credits, and the EIC, they got a $9800 Federal refund, and a $900 State refund. This is with nothing withheld from his pay. Add another $10k in food stamps and that means they paid a negative $16700 in taxes. Ran numbers for them last year when I did their taxes, and he would have to make over $60k before he would pay a dime in Federal income tax.

I tend to believe the numbers these folks are throwing out are far more accurate then you think. Not saying the working poor don't need a hand, as they sure do, but just because you don't want to believe the numbers doesn't make you right.

Here's why. For a family of 11 that income is considered below the poverty line. Pretty simple answer. I would hope you would be a little more sympathetic toward your own family when they are in that situation.
