can you really live your whole life on it..?? not talking about SS disability here. (although I'm sure there's some fraud there) Let's say a young woman ends up raising a couple kids and needs some help... fine, that's what it's for.. what happens when the kids grow up? how does she remain on the welfare..?? 😕

When the kids grow up the mom has "health" problems and goes on SSD ands still gets food stamps.

At the federal level there are is a lifetime cap of 7 years, and no more than 3 years consecutively. There are exceptions to this for battered women (and men I guess), the disabled, veterans, and a few other cases. Many single mothers who are on welfare are also battered women (despite what you may thing, not many women opt to be single mothers just to stay on the dole).

Individual states can also have either own policies to extend or restrict benefits.

I should also note that the 7 year cap on welfare is independent from other social benefits such as unemployment, social security, etc.

seven years doesn't really sound unreasonalble over a lifetime.... but there has to be a loophole there... I've seen the benefits go well beyond that with some of the kids my son went to school with... 😟

I know there are purported limitations on benefits, but seems to me there are more than a few cities in the US with entire sections that are multigenerational drug and crime ridden Welfare/ Section 8 havens.

So soon we will be gathering up these refuse and putting them on special trains in the middle of the night.

Some will become civil servants, others solders, and still others, limousine drivers in the best of circumstances. None will complain or voice discontent. Except for those very few who simply refuse to get off the train . . . . . .
