You're mad about a Supreme Court decision from 10 years ago! The exact same law and court ruling applies to you if you went out and invented some genetically modified seed. Then you would be the corporate owner biotech that the corporate owner farmers didn't like. You just sound bitter.

So you want to go change the patent laws to expressly go after Monsanto and think that will hold up in court? Over the last 10 years have the Republicans or your beloved Democrats made any effort to do this?!

Geeez – what a weasel. You ask for a statute that exemplifies a law favoring corporations and when I give it to you accuse me of bitter anger.

You haven’t looked into this and don't understand the ramification, but are eager to lecture and have the gall to hand out a 'boot strap' lecture. This is an “inappropriate use of the law for corporate gain” and you back it blindly – even though it affects us all.

Nothing personal HD, but you are a fool - and I mean it in the practical sense.

The patent laws don't favor corporations, they favor anyone who holds a patent, including you. You have demonstrated a repeated pattern of bitterness and jealousy towards those that are more successful than you. You've convinced yourself that there is a Monsanto Law just like you've convinced yourself about how "The Man" is keeping you down.

Instead of using your time calling people fools, why don't you spend some time working on some patents. Perhaps the fine scientists at Monsanto are just way better at it than you are. I'm sure you have a ready-made excuse already prepared to justify why you should not even bother to get off the couch.

The game is rigged and the playing field is stacked against you. Why even bother until someone comes along and fixes it all for you.

Oh and.....nothing personal!

HockeyDad, I come from a family of engineers. My Grandfather and Father both created and for a time held a small number of patents for electronic and mechanical devices. I myself am a party to a patent for on obscure device that is widely marketed today. So I write with some novice level of understanding in this matter.

I thank you for you honesty – at least you can offer that. But do you have any understanding of the negotiation of patent ownership? I feel your ideals are nothing more than that – ideals – apart from the realities of business.

My Father used to to say to me “what, you think the world in on the level?” He often warned me of the folly of those who think that is is.
As do you.

Perhaps it is me that is the fool. Sometimes I think you can show people the face of greed and they will understand. Foolish indeed.

What does any of that have to do with your hatred and jealousy of Monsanto and why you want special anti-Monsanto laws?

I understand that you think the game is rigged and the playing field is stacked against you and your dad did too so I can now see a multi-generational link just as you followed in his footsteps and became an engineer. Perhaps these things are genetic. It could even go back further to when your ancestor came over on the Mayflower and complained about getting bottom bunk.

If you are so concerned about the need to show people the face of greed, why do you and you family hold/formerly held patents? What was the purpose of patenting something? Were you just that darn proud of it and wanted to show the world or did you want to protect your marketing and income rights like a little tiny Monsanto? Surely when you sold it the situation would just be the "face of making a little money" and not the "face of greed".

I don't deal with patents. I have people for that. I deal with intellectual property. Things we likely won't pursue a patent on for 5+ years still and we're not about to tell anybody in the world about the inner workings like we would have to do as part of the patent application process. We'll do that only at the point that we want to license it and at that point we would defend those rights just like Monsanto would. I would assume you would defend your patent rights as well to protect your royalty/licensing stream unless that belongs to your employer. Hopefully that is not what "a party to a patent" means in your definition.

I once got this in a fortune cookie: "When attempting to show the face of greed, be mindful not to show the face of jealousy". 10 14 22 36 38 49 (I don't think the lottery numbers won anything)

I gotta admit, the constant misrepresentation of our positions, even after being told what they are over and over, by those on the right in the media and their brainwashed monkies on message boards such as this can get very annoying. It's like talking to children.

The post you responded to was, of course, inspired by your latest and purposeful misrepresentation that somehow pointing out and protesting the social engineering this country has been going through for the last 30 years is stacked against the middle class and poor is personal greed and nothing more. The shifting of the tax burden to the middle class that started under Reagan was called 'broadening the base'.

However, you and your couch's outrage are duly noted.

Well of course not as they weren't around.

Why did they? Near bankruptcy because of previous wars, rising food prices, inadequate and regressive taxation system, rich getting richer, poor getting poorer, citizens looking for political and economic equality and freedom from religious oppression from the church, stuff like that right?

I wish there was a way for us as humans to predict social upheaval by knowing the stuff to look for, you know, the causes, the stuff that makes people pissed off somehow.

The important thing is that it is clear you learned to say "I surrender" in English a long time ago. It just sucks being the victim all the time, doesn't it? Maybe FEMA will come a long soon with some free stuff for you.
