The studies are obviously wrong and biased so just presented for your reading pleasure should you care to read.

Low IQ & Conservative Beliefs Linked to Prejudice

There's no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.

The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.

"Prejudice is extremely complex and multifaceted, making it critical that any factors contributing to bias are uncovered and understood," he said.

Controversy ahead

The findings combine three hot-button topics.

"They've pulled off the trifecta of controversial topics," said Brian Nosek, a social and cognitive psychologist at the University of Virginia who was not involved in the study. "When one selects intelligence, political ideology and racism and looks at any of the relationships between those three variables, it's bound to upset somebody."

Polling data and social and political science research do show that prejudice is more common in those who hold right-wing ideals that those of other political persuasions, Nosek told LiveScience. [7 Thoughts That Are Bad For You]

"The unique contribution here is trying to make some progress on the most challenging aspect of this," Nosek said, referring to the new study. "It's not that a relationship like that exists, but why it exists."

Throw in blindness and your certain to have a racist. Just ask Clayton Bigsby. When asked if he was a racist, his reply was..."Sir! I'm going to make this clear. I'm in no way, shape or form involved in any kind of n***erdom."

Without seeing the full study and reviewing the factors such as sample size, geographic areas, etc., I would say this study is more common sense than anything. Someone with low intelligence is more likely to have a much more black/white sense of right and wrong common to religous idealogy and therefore more likely to have more in common with social conservatives. As to racial bias, that has much more to do with upbringing in my most humble opinion.

A little about the author Stephanie Pappas...

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a microbiologist. And an archaeologist. Also: a park ranger, an artist, a teacher, and a secretary.

I never really grew out of my desire to do everything. Luckily, science journalism allows me to peek into all sorts of worlds. I’m still into archaeology and biology, but I’m particularly drawn to stories about the brain and the intricate inner workings of the human body.

I grew up hiking in East Tennessee, and although I was the whiniest 8-year-old on the trail, the mountains are now my favorite place to be. I'm also a big fan of chickpeas, Margaret Atwood, and glaciers.

Sounds like every other liberal...I don't know man...i'll just go where the wind blows me...

"Low IQ & Liberal Beliefs Linked to Prejudice"

And if you don't believe me, come down one day to S.E. Washington D.C. with me and see what kind of names they call you.
But then again, we all know Blacks......I mean Liberals can't be Prejudice. Right?

"Conservatives" don't have a monopoly on racism or low IQs. I think that continuing to defend/praise Obama shows a pretty low IQ. And the fact that so many "liberals" favor affirmative action shows true racism in it's purest form -- the belief that non-white people can't accomplish anything on their own without whitey helping them.

I think conservatives are much more intellegenter.

Liberal broads as a rule are much angryer and uglier.

It explains how Obama got elected.....anyone who has an IQ wouldn't have voted for him. And, affirmative action is just about as racist as you can get.

Since I'm on a roll, "this is how balck people meet" at blackpeoplemeet.com is pretty racist. Good thing we don't have "this is how white people meet" or Jesse and the gang would have Oprah call us racists.....

Some of the responses are funny because they show what the study was talking about.

"Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies," doesn't mean everyone is of lower intelligence,

Not understanding scientific studies and methods is also a sign of the same mindset.

Overall, I call BS on this article. The only two data sources listed are too outdated and limited to support the basic assumption of the article. They are also from the UK which IMO doesn’t really correlate very well with the US population.

Certainly there are many people who have a low IQ and are racist. There are also some very intelligent people who are racist. I read the article and it didn’t present much data to support their general claim. They list two sample groups UK babies born in March 1958 and in April 1970. I don’t feel that this is a very large sample size to make such sweeping general statements about a relationship and link between IQ and racism.

From a purely antidotal perspective I think that there is a greater correlation between your peer group and racism. I feel that your family’s income level plays a significant role in your peer group. From what I understand you develop most of your beliefs (and racism is a belief – IMO) from your peer group.

There is also the well known fact that any study or poll can be skewed to get whatever results you want. The way they ask a question, or the choices given can give the poll/study the results they want.

Empirically observed covariation is a necessary but not sufficient condition for causality!!!!
