Just finished one. Hope this qualifies. Ingrediants used: round Italian bread, homemade spread of olives, artichokes, onion, oregano, basil, garlic powder & extra virgin olive oil (that means the oil was not even allowed to kiss), about a pound of meat consisting of soprasotta, prosciutto de palma, ham, & fresh mozzarella and a bottle of red.

Of Yeah!!!!!!!!!

I think Maspero's has the best muffaletta by far.👍

Drafter if you make to New Orleans you owe it to yourself to go to Central Grocery on Decatur St in the French Quarter and get yourself a Muff. They really are that good.

Muffaletta is the name of the sandwich, not the green/black olive mixture. The olive mix is known as olivada.

I have to agree with those that feel a muffaletta should be served on a round bun at least 9" diameter. It's not just the shape or type of the bread...it's the sheer size of the sandwich that makes a muffaletta a muffaletta.

There's no shame in only being able to eat half a "true" muffaletta...It's that big.

I'm sorry, but what you have pictured is a sub pretending to be a muffaletta.

A Philly Cheese-steak sandwich isn't a Philly if you substitute Cheddar....it becomes a "Melt."

Only cheese appropriate for a cheesesteak is American, Provolone, or Cheese Whiz, (if, in fact, that really IS cheese).

The muffuletta is both a type of round Sicilian sesame bread[1] and a popular sandwich originating among Italian immigrants in New Orleans, Louisiana using the same bread.

A traditional style muffuletta sandwich consists of a muffuletta loaf split horizontally and covered with layers of marinated olive salad, mortadella, salami, mozzarella, ham, and provolone. The sandwich is sometimes heated to soften the provolone.[3] Quarter, half, and full-sized muffulettas are sold.

The signature olive salad consists of olives diced with the celery, cauliflower and carrot found in a jar of giardiniera, seasoned with oregano and garlic, covered in olive oil, and allowed to combine for at least 24 hours.

BTW, Central Grocery in NOLA claims to be the original, but they do not serve them heated, which in my book is a mistake... Café Maspero just down the street has a much better one, but in my opinion the best muffuletta in the area is a little place named Giorlando's on Bonnabel in Metairie. Giorlando's uses 2 types of cheese, but swiss instead of provolone and makes the bread daily on site....

Trish and her husband have had one from there, maybe she'll chime in.....
