I am of the opinion that white American society has de facto anointed Jackson and Sharpton as spokes-persons for the black community. Americans listen to them and are affected by what they say, like their message or not. Stop reading what they Write, listening to what they preach, stop watching them on TV and ignore them- they will lose their "power" overnight. They would have no "pulpit" and other people from the black community would become its official spokes-people. And, no- the NBP could not possibly be it.

You stated otherwise on THIS thread!

"friends"? Sharpton and Jackson? Friends to a dollar. Friends of exploitation. Friends of sensationalism. Friends of grandiosity.

AL SHARPTON CALLING FOR ESCALATION IN TRAYVON MARTIN CASE JUST LIKE PEOPLE WERE STILL LISTENING

New York, NY – One day, perhaps one day soon, the drama over the death of Trayvon Martin will end. As big as it seems right now, eventually everything will start to fizzle out no matter how it’s resolved. George Zimmerman may or not be charged but eventually the story will go away and that will happen because that’s what always happens.

Of course some people are more than eager to keep the story going no matter the cost and will keep pressing it for as long as they can. The family of Martin will undoubtedly keep it going because they have every right to do so, but other groups, others who have latched onto the case, will also have a vested interest in keeping the whole thing afloat.

Al Sharpton is one of those people and already he has tried to push the story further into the news, and in the process raise his own profile from the doldrums in which it has been wallowing for a number of years. Sharpton is now calling for an escalation of the case, assuming it is believed that someone is out there listening to him, somewhere.

“I will speak about how the National Action Network will move to the next level if Zimmerman isn't arrested. Whether he had a swollen or broken nose, neither one means he had to take a 9mm and kill someone,” said Sharpton. “It's not about saying Zimmerman is innocent or guilty, this is about whether there was probable cause to arrest him.”

Sharpton’s calls to action in the past have never resulted in any arrests, even in his heyday of the 1990’s.

Jesse Jackson has also sided with Sharpton in the call for action and though he is more widely respected it’s not clear if anyone still actually listens to him or if they just hear words coming from his mouth.

“At this stage it’s pretty clear that something is going to have to happen to George Zimmerman. I would bet that murder charges will be out but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t a raft of things with which he could be charged. I think, rightly or wrongly, that the call for blood is going to result in blood being spilled. It’s just too big of a thing right now,” said Scrape TV Legal analyst Gabe Hawthorne. “Whether that blood is spilled as a result of Al Sharpton or not is a totally separate issue. I would doubt it really has anything to do with what he says. He’s just one of many voices in a lot of voices, though I would guess he will be more than willing to take full credit for it.”

Many people showed up for the rally on Saturday though it’s not clear how many actually listened to Sharpton.

“There are so many people calling for action right now that It’s really hard to be on the losing side of the deal right now and once something does actually happen, once action is taken against Zimmerman, I’m sure they will all be very pleased with themselves, including Sharpton I’m sure,” continued Hawthrone. “Whether or not that actually does anything for his profile or not is a totally separate issue. It’s hard to bring things back after so long because people just tend to forget, especially when they didn’t really listen in the first place which will be Sharpton’s issue I think.”

Sharpton, it is believed, is listening to himself.

60% View Al Sharpton Unfavorably

All three are high-profile representatives of the political left, but that doesn’t necessarily make them popular.

In fact, just 26% of American Adults share an even somewhat favorable opinion of the Rev. Al Sharpton, with eight percent (8%) who view him Very Favorably. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 60% view the civil rights activist and MSNBC host unfavorably, including 37% with a Very Unfavorable view. Fifteen percent (15%) have no opinion of him. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 Adults nationwide was conducted on March 28-29, 2012 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

Yes we should! Their behavior needs to be known but NOT commended or condoned.

Robert I think people are easily irritated with these two carnival barkers because the reporting of their behavior never contains the context of their established patterns. Its always reported like these two are the anointed MLK torch bearers. And their racial issues are never brought to bear when in fact RACIAL issues are how they make their $.

"Statistics are like a drunken women. You can do whatever you want with them."

The issue isn't whether America like Jackson and Sharpton overall- basic common knowledge is that America doesn't. We don't need statistics to know that.

Instead, the issue is whether America relatively prefers Jackson and Sharpton or both of them speaking to and on behalf of the black community over... let's say... The Black Panthers, Nation of Islam/Louis Farrakhan and their like (and messages akin at times to anarchy).

Given just those two sets of radically different choices- one group which tries to influence "the system" and the other, which screams out for anarchy- disregard of the system ("Street Law!"), I will take Jackson and Sharpton any day of the week- and so would you.

Does that mean I like or love them? No- it means they are, in my opinion, the lesser of evils.

Great with the last 7 cars. Negotiated good "prices", low interest rates, lease payments less than loan payments and had buy-outs less than FMV each time. Also got to take tax deductions in the years the lease payment s were made rather than according to IRS depreciation schedules. Gonna buy out Nos. 6 and 7 (Honda Accords) for my kids and get something kick-2ass again in September or the September after. I think it was someone else you were arguing with, probably Dave, who came right out and simply told you he could afford it. Imagine that!

Now, back to Sanford and Zimmerman: With all evidence I have seen thus far, Zimmerman probably won't get get charged with murder. If he does, he walks b/f trial. If it goes to trial,it won't be in Sanford and, more likely than not - he walks away free. His case will attract phenomenal; lawyers from around the country and we could see a whose who of 2nd Amendment lawyers. Will be better than Casey Anthony- from a legal perspective, and won't drawn-out in public nearly as painfully or wrong. Again, this is based on the evidence I have seen and heard thus far- my opinion could change with new evidence.
